SOI: Different perspectives can be shaped by social constructions of reality and the purpose of a text
can be to influence audiences.

Task: Evaluate and analyze the perspective of the events and characters on Animal Farm. Choose
one of the following questions to answer in your essay. At least six pieces of textual evidence
are required for all options.
Question 1: Critically discuss the following statement: Animal Farm is about leaders and
followers.
Question 2: Throughout the novel the pigs established their position in society and the novel
Animal Farm concludes with the following scene:
“The Creatures outside looked from pig to man, and from man to pig,
and from pig to man again: but already it was impossible to say which
was which” (Orwell 102).
How did the pigs effectively strengthen their purpose in becoming tyrants like Mr. Jones?
Questions 3: Through a close examination of the character of Squealer, show how language
can be a powerful tool of propaganda.
Question 4: Do you think that the animals’ revolution was a success or a failure?

Product: A 3-to-5-page analytical essay which explores the chosen question. Your textual evidence
should deeply explore the topic from throughout the novel, not just in the beginning of the book.
Additionally, you must explain (analyse) and incorporate your own writing to support each chosen
piece of textual evidence (show comprehension and understanding). Ideas should connect and built
on each other and be fully justified (example, explanation, relevant details).
