EVALUATE:ACTIVITY 5:Give your reaction to the following statement.

Explain your agreement or

disagreement.

Asking students to memorize knowledge that they do not apply in any meaningful way does not assist
them in developing higher order thinking skills.

-I agree with the statement because in my view, the most important element of learning is to
understand how what is taught applies. The fact that students have memorized throughout formulas,
lesson structure and any other information is good but until they are able to put it in context and know
how it applies to a real life situation. Students have not learned anything but they have merely stored it
in memory for future recall. When we train students to just memorize, we are not teaching them how to
think. Rather, we are training them to just be “responsive.” When this happens, students given
situations or problems fail to consider a bigger context. They also get used to thinking along with only
what was already given to them. Hence, poor problem solving skills.Honestly, we cannot reform the
whole education system in a snap, but we can start by how we help students evaluate what they know.

A true/false test does not give insight into how a student is do.

-I agree with the statement because True or false test are notoriously unreliable for student assessment
and it’s the easiest question format on which to guess correctly. It don’t test student's ability to recall
information or demonstrate understanding, but rather only recognize if a fact is familiar..
