Cherry Tree Design is proud of its diverse and functional mounting and movement options and
uses only the highest quality hardware to hang its shoji.

This tracking allows for easy movement and great flexibility for variations and changes in opening
dimensions due to climate changes and settling. Hardware on top of screens is neatly concealed with a matching
hardwood valance, supports the full weight, and is adjustable 1/4" up or down.

With the Roller Aluminum upper track, the suggested bottom treatment is the Narrow
Groove hardwood floor track, made of the same hardwood as the shoji, or grooves
can be carved into existing floor by installer. 1/ "
2
These hardwood tracks, with 1/8" wide grooves, keep the screens in line when a
nylon spring guide is extended beneath the bottom rail. The glide of nylon on
wood is smoother than wood on wood.

W I D E G R O O V E - T O P T R A C K
Wide Groove Tracks slide with the weight of the screens on the bottom track. More traditional in it's appearance this
type of hardwood tracking should only be used where very little change in height is expected due to it's narrow
clearance (5/16"). The upper tracks serve as the guides, supporting no weight. This treatment requires Wide Groove
Bottom Track.

When used in conjunction with the Wide Groove Top Track, the bottom track must serve as the glider while supporting
the weight of the screens. Tracks slide with the weight of the screens on the bottom track. Maintenance of these tracks
requires waxing the inside track channel regularly. As an alternative to the Wide Groove wood on wood slide, consider
the Narrow Groove floor track using Nylon Strips inserted in the bottom of shoji (in place of the Spring Guide used in
conjunction with the Roller Aluminum top track - page 20). Both are made of the same hardwood as the shoji. An
alternative to our hardwood tracks, narrow grooves can be carved into the existing floor by installer.

3 . H I N G E D – Hinged shoji can mount either inside the opening where there is no face trim, or outside the
opening with the addition of hanging strips to clear the trim.
4 .F I X E D I N P L A C E
• Fixed shoji are best mounted inside the opening.
• They are held in place with bullet catches which allow for screen
removal for cleaning.
• 5/32" clearance around the screen is needed for a proper fit.
(Please photocopy this page and use a separate page for each opening.)
G e n e r a l Q u e s t i o n s :
1. See diagrams below to determine if this should be an inside mount. If not use outside mount questionaire
on page 24.
2. If a floor track is used; will it mount on top of a finished floor or subflooring?____________ If finished floor,
what is the floor covering?____________ If carpet, how thick is the pile and pad?_______ (approx.)
3. Are there any protrusions the shoji must clear (i.e., trim molding, window crank, door handle)? _____________
How far does it protrude? _______________________
I n s i d e M o u n t i n g Q u e s t i o n s :
1. Measure the internal dimensions. Do this in three to four places to determine the narrowest dimensions. (Note
variations, if any) Height ____________________________________________ (finished floor — or lower jamb to
the bottom of the jamb header) Width ____________________________________________
2. How deep or thick is the opening or header (allow for any protrusions)? ___________ If the depth is not
enough to mount the desired number of tracks, can a shelf be mounted to the header (and sill/threshold) to
accommodate all the tracks?_____________________________
3. What type of material is on the inside of the finished opening? i.e. wood, plaster, sheetrock,
other____________________________________
(Please photocopy this page and use a separate page for each opening.)
G e n e r a l Q u e s t i o n s :
1. See diagrams below to determine if this should be an outside mount. If not use inside mount questionaire

3. Are there any protrusions the shoji must clear (i.e., trim molding, window crank, door handle)? _____________
How far does it protrude? _______________________
4. For window treatments, what is the distance from the floor to the bottom of the opening?_______________
O u t s i d e M o u n t i n g Q u e s t i o n s :
1. Will the shoji cover the molding/casing? ______ If yes, then measure from the outside molding to the outside
molding. Measure the area to cover. Height ____________________________________________ (for windows
— opening or molding; for doors — from finished floor) Width _______________________________________
2. What is the width of the molding face? _______ What is the depth of the molding? _____________
3. Normally our shoji extend 1/2” beyond the edge of the opening or molding. Do you want this?_______
