SOCIETY, TECHNOLOGY AND ENVIRONMENT: THE IMPACT OF INDUSTRIAL

ENGINEERING

The industrial engineers have great things to contribute to the world, we have a holistic view
of each of the things that make up the industry, and we know how to keep the human talent of
organizations happy to meet the needs of customers.

Therefore, an industrial engineer brings to society the ability to know each of the processes and
the needs of people, in order to integrate them and make them work as a whole. Industrial
engineers contribute to entrepreneurship and development of new opportunities, project
management, increasing the productivity of people, making organizations more efficient.

In the technological field, it is bidirectional, since they are a mutual support, knowing the
processes, analyzing them, and optimizing them allows identifying needs that technology can
satisfy. In turn, technology has a great contribution in industrial engineering because new
inventions allow streamlining and optimizing processes, an example of this is the steam engine,
a new technology that at the time optimized and improved production. (METRICA, 2016)

As for the contribution of industrial engineering to the environment, it is difficult to see an

implicit relationship, but having knowledge of almost all the areas that make up an organization
allows to create appropriate solutions that allow the integration of management and
production systems to make them more self-sustainable and environmentally friendly,
improving manufacturing practices and integrating the environmental protocols that each
organization needs. (Anaya, 2010)
