EXECUTIVE SUMMARY

In today's global marketplace, effective supply chain management is seen as a significant

competitive advantage for a business. The enterprise that conducts robust supply chain
planning activities, delivers increased efficiencies. Supply chain managers plan, schedule,
and control that flow of goods to help the company stay competitive and control costs. They
build the bridges between suppliers, companies, and consumers. Syngenta Bangladesh Ltd is
one of the leading organizations in Bangladesh has been contributing to the economy by
providing quality crop protection & seeds in a comparatively reasonable price.

LOGISTIC & DISTRIBUTION

SBL Logistic & Distribution can be summaries as follows:

1. It collects imported bulk materials from the port by its agent’s transportation.
2. All the packing materials is delivered by the supplier to SBL factory end.
3. All the finished good is stored to one point at its Central warehouse.
4. All the finished goods have been delivered to SBL Central warehouse.
FINDINGS

1. There is no fully automated system for managing materials and inventory.

2. Separate warehouses are required by category because after collecting all the stock data we found
that several of the warehouses were too solid with materials and some were empty.
3. Sales projection frequently changed which creates problem of material availability.
4. Technical evaluation is done through the concerned persons of local & global authority often, which
involves more time for evaluation. Multi-tier approval is found in the procurement process, which
also involves a higher lead time.
5. Uses various methods such as outsourcing, importing from different countries, own production etc.
which creates problems in managing the whole inventory system.
RECOMMENDATIONS
1. They should apply the proper WMS system for managing their inventory. A modern WMS will
connect to a variety of communication technologies (radio frequency), automatic ID technologies
(barcode, RFID), mobile computers, and occasionally automated material handling (conveyors and
sortation) and storage equipment (carousels, automatic storage and retrieval).
2. We recommend dividing all the materials on their basis and prefer them to allocate these materials
on the basis of categories.
3. SBL should consider the variety of sales forecasting methods, tools and techniques to choose from
and figure out what will work best for their business model.
4. To achieve a significant reduction in lead time, e-procurement system is a great choice, because they
automate tasks such as product quotation and procurement closing activities, offering more control
and visibility to managers.
5. Proper Material Requirements Planning (MRP) system should follow for managing the whole
inventory system. MRP works backward from a production plan for finished goods, which is
converted into a list of requirements for the subassemblies, component parts, and raw materials that
are needed to produce the final product within the established schedule.
CONCLUSION

A company's material management process starts from the factory where its products are made to the
point the products are in customer hands. A typical supply chain has five different steps. Products start
out as raw materials. In the second step, the manufacturer takes raw materials and turns them into
products. The third step occurs when the finished products get shipped to the distribution facility. In step
four, the distribution facility uses the products to stock a retail store. In the final step, the products get
delivered to the hands of the consumer. The Material Management of SBL has been described in this
project with the light of this concept.
