Modified Game 1-Mini Tennis


Number Of Students: 20 students
2 people per team, 10 teams total.

2 teams, 10 people on each team.
● Teams will be preselected by teacher by mixing skill levels.

Positions: All students have the same position along the service line. Students can
stagger themselves in the box depending on where they want to receive or serve.
Facilities: Tennis courts (5 courts)
Equipment: 10 tennis balls, equipment on tennis court (net)
Focus:
1. Students are to play small-sided game trying to learn the rules and scoring of tennis.
2. Students are to work together learning how to communicate on the tennis court.

Rules:
❖ Students are to serve on the deuce side of the court when starting each game.
❖ Serving:
➢ Students must say score before serving
➢ Students get one underhand serve
➢ Serve can go anywhere on the other side of the court
➢ If serve hits the net and lands in the box on an angle students get a
second serve
■ If bounces out other teams point
➢ If serve goes in doubles ally, past service line or in the wrong box it is the
other teams point.
➢ Player returning must let the tennis ball bounce before returning the
serve.
❖ Playing out the point:
➢ Once the player returning the serve hits the tennis ball the ball is able to
go anywhere within the service boxes. (ally's are allowed)
■ If the tennis ball goes out opposite team gets point
➢ Students can only hit a forehand, backhand or volley. Overheads are not
allowed.
➢ The tennis ball can only bounce once
➢ If a player gets hit by the tennis ball it is the other teams point
➢ After the point has ended the server switches sides with partner so they
are serving from a different location.
➢ If net is touched during the point that team loses the point
❖ Score:
➢ Students will do rally scoring
➢ Every four points the server changes

■ Teammates cannot serve back to back

❖ Each person will serve. First team to finish will cause all other teams to stop.
Teams will then rotate to play someone new.
Extensions: Up: Have students try and get 10 plus rallies having all the students hitting
the ball an even amount of times.

Down: Have students work to focus on getting the ball over the net. Students can use
the small foam/ gator balls.
Safety:
❖ Eyes up, heads up
❖ Communicate with partner to see who is getting the ball

Modified Game 2- Partner Badminton


Number Of Students: 20 students
10 teams of 2
● Teams will be decided by students picking a card from a deck. Symbol and color
must match to make partnership
Positions: Offense and defense

Facilities: Gymnasium- badminton court
Equipment: 20 rackets, 20 shuttlecocks, 10 nets

Focus:
1. Passing to all teammates
2. Win as many possible points in the time frame.

Rules:
❖ Game time:
➢ The winning team moves up the ladder and the losing team moves down
➢ Each game is 8 minutes
➢ Students underhand serve on an angle to opposite team
■ The receiving team must pass to their partner before hitting it over
the net.
■ Teams get a max of two hits before the shuttlecock must go over
the net.
➢ Students will serve four times and then rotate server
■ Both partners serve four times and then the other team gets to
serve
➢ If the shuttlecock hits the net at any point it is still a live point and must be
played out
Safety:
❖ Eyes up, heads up
❖ Knowing who is around you
❖ Be aware of the boundaries

Extensions: Up:
Students can experiment with the backhand serve
Down: Provide students with a larger paddle

Modified Game 3- Spikeball Volleyball
Number Of Students: 20 students
Teams of 2- 10 teams
● Teams will be randomly selected by an online app.
Positions: Offense and defense of volleyball

Focus:
1.Work on passing with accuracy to partner.
2. Skill cues of spiking in hoop with accuracy.

Facilities: Gymnasium

Equipment: 10 volleyballs, 10 hula hoops.

Rules:
❖ Serving
➢ Students must serve across to opposing team
➢ Students only get one serve
➢ Must bounce in hoop before going to opposite team
■ If it does not go in the hoop opposite team gets a point
■ If it hits the rim student gets a second serve
❖ Return options:
➢ Bump to partner or spike into hoop
➢ If student bumps to partner, partner can either bump/set back or spike into
hoop
➢ Partner can only spike now
■ Students get a max of three touches
➢ From there the other team can play it out as they wish.
❖ Players play until the ball misses the hoop or cannot be returned
❖ Students will play for 5 minutes, the team with the most points will stay the losing
team will move down a court.
Safety:
❖ Eyes up, heads up
❖ Knowing your boundaries
Extensions: Up: Challenge teams to go for three hits before spiking.
Down: Make a jump rope circle for more space instead of the hula hoop.

Modified Game 4- 4 square volleyball
Number of Players: 20 students
There are no teams in this game but there are 4 courts of 5
Students will be randomly picked out of a hat and told to go to a certain court.

Positions: Offense and defense


Facility: Basketball Court 4 four square stations set up
Equipment: 5 volleyballs
Focus:
1. Having students work on bumping/ setting/ spiking with accuracy
2. Have students work on strategically placing the ball to put opponent out of position.

Rules/Activity:
❖ One person will start off with an underhand serve by the king to anyone in the
box
❖ Players will play it out bumping and setting trying to get opponent out of position
to win the point.
➢ If the ball or player goes out of bounds or is given a bad bump/ set that
player is out
➢ Students then rotate accordingly by moving up a spot or being the person
to watch
❖ Students are not allowed to spike
❖ There are not a set number of serves a player can serve for it depends on how
long they are in the king spot for

Safety:
● Eyes up, heads up
● Know your surroundings

Extensions:
Up: Have students try place the ball in strategic locations.
Down: Have students focus on getting the ball in the air

Modified game 5- Pickleball Bowling
Number Of Students: 20 Students
10 teams of 2
Partners will warm up and then get picked by skill level, there will be two different level
branches- beginner and advanced.
Positions: Server and receiver
Facility: Gymnasium
Equipment: 20 bowling pins, 20 pickleball paddles, 10 gator balls
Focus:
1. Have students work on positioning to aim to hit pins.
2. Have students work together to knock down all pins.
Rules:
❖ Students will get with their partner
❖ Each student will start behind their pins
❖ One student will perform an underhand serve to their partner
❖ The partner will set the ball back to the server who is closing in on the pins.
❖ The server will use their forehand, backhand, or volleys to try and knock over the
pins.
❖ Partners will switch roles for the next round.
❖ Students will play for 8 minutes and then they will switch partners.
❖ Place another set approximately 20 feet away. One student stands behind each
set of pins

Safety:
❖ Eyes up, heads up
❖ Know what is going on around you
Extensions Up: Give students more pins to try and knock down.
Down: Have students not run towards the target, have them stationary to knock over
the pins using their volleys.
