Car Check List

This is a guide, Not intended for actual use

Things to bring with you


Good LED Flashlight

Laptop with P.A. Soft and OBDII Adapter

Oil Filter Housing Gasket-For Leakage

Valve Cover Gasket-For Leakage

Engine Fan if AT-For Spin Resistance

Oil Filler Cap, Underside-For Yellowish Sludge

Inspect for coolant leaks-whiteish residue around cooling hoses

Inspect Power Steering-Check all the lines and reservoir for any evidence of leaks

Under Car on ground and bottom of car-Look for evidence of any oil leaks

Underbody cover panels present

Inspect front struts-Look for evidence for leakage

Inspect front control arm bushings-for gross evidence of neglect

Inspect rear shocks-Look for evidence of any leakage

Look at tail pipe-Wipe inside pipe with rag/towel and inspect for oil

Inspect rear differential-Look for evidence of leakage

Inspect Tires-Check for any uneven tread wear or other non normal wear

Inspect Body-Check for scratches, dings, chips, dents ETC.

Head / Tail lights-Turn on and check for operation

Coolant Level-Inspect for proper level


Inside
Turn on the laptop and plug into the OBDII port-Run P.A. Soft scan and inspect results (Do Not Clear Codes)

Turn car on-Look for any dash board lights

Inspect A/C-Ensure cold air blows, listen to engine when A/C engages

Inspect Heat-Ensure proper operation and no bad odors

Inspect Window operation-Ensure they go down and up with no hesitation or cracking noises

Press Accelerator-Listen to engine, ensure there is no hesitation or abnormal noise

Inspect Interior-Check the condition of the seats, dash, roof, pillars for wear, tears, stains etc.

Open Moon roof if equipped-Should fully open and fully close with no stops or hesitation

Electric Seats if equipped-Check for proper operation in all directions

Electric Lumbar if equipped-Check for proper operation

Seat Heat if equipped-Check for proper operation

Listen-For engine operating noise level. Excessive noise/vibration needs further investigation.
Test Drive
Slow Drive-In a safe place let hands off wheel and see if car pulls to one side or the other

Slow Drive-In a safe place, let hands off wheel and apply breaks-car should stay straight

Normal street-Listen for any unusual noise while driving

Highway-Without letting hands off wheel, check how the car handles, no pulling, noise or vibrations etc

Highway-Without letting hands off wheel, does car drift, or is there any play in the steering wheel

If you are satisfied with the results, then you


should now seek a PPI
