Litera: That's a nice topic, Teacher Gem. By the way, good morning to y'll.
GEM: Okay Litera. Let's first discuss the benefits of literature. Can you give me
one benefit of literature, Litera?
GEM: Awesome Litera. Great job! That's one of the benefits of Literature. The other
benefits are
(2) increasing reading achievement and enhancing reading skills and strategies
(3) enhancing writing skills and styles
(4) encouraging higher-level thinking
(5) enhancing the integration of the four language components
(6) motivating children to read
(7) encouraging learner involvement
GEM: That's correct. Too many advantages or benefits is good indicator that
literature is so important to us especially to children.
Litera: Indeed.
GEM: Since literature consists generally of three major genres: prose, poetry and
drama, we shall endeavor to apply the three strategies to the reading of the three
literary genres. Do you know the acronym of SQ3R?
Litera: The acronym of SQ3R is S for Survey, Q for Question and the 3Rs are Read,
Recite and Review.
GEM: You did study your lesson Litera. You haven't missed anything. :) Okay. SQ3R
is a five-step comprehension strategy wherein It helps students develop effective
study habits by engaging in its pre-reading, during-reading, and post-reading
steps. Also, it fosters reading comprehension and retention of information.
Gem: That's all for the benefits of literature and the SQ3R. Around of applause for
Litera. You didn't miss anything and you answered all my questions. Great Job!
Litera: Bye.
