1. What happens to students who break rules? Punishments or consequences?

The program wants to stay far away from punishment as possible. The students have
consequences for their bullying actions. There are three levels of implementation for the
program : Schoolwide, Class wide and individual. There are a series of intervention and
meetings with the school staff, students and parents to prevent bullying.
2. Is it realistically possible to reinforce this program consistently? Why or why
not?

Yes, I believe you can reinforce the program consistently. The program has a series of
meetings and interventions to assist students in the bullying program. There is a
committee that will help support staff and students in reinforcing the programs. Each
school personnel will be trained in the program. They will also plan activities that keep
students involved and interested.

3. Is this program research based?

Yes, this is a research based program. Dr. Dan Olweus has been studying anti-bullying
techniques for 40 years. The program first was tested in Norway on a group of 4-8th
graders for the span of 2 ½ years. The program then was introduced in North America
in the mid 1990s.

4. Does this program provide an instructional component for teaching students

self-control and/or social skill strategies?

Yes, the program does have student self-control strategies. The students are taught in
the classroom how to deal and prevent bullying. They host interventions for the bullies
and the victims in order to support the anti-bullying program. The program teaches the
students to respect others and themselves.

5. What do students learn as a result of reinforcement?

Students are respectful to peers and know they are supported by teachers, staff and
community. The students are trained to handle bullying situations as a bystander, bully,
and victim. The program takes almost seven years to fully implement, so it does take a
while for all students to understand and use program.

6. Is a teacher training option available? If so, how long does the training last? Is
there a continuous follow up and administrative support?

Yes! There are many books and training for teachers to use to help them with
implementing the program. It is actually mandatory for all teachers to be trained by an
OBPP certified trainer. You can pay for a teacher in your district to be trained as a
certified trainer. The training to become the staff to train other staff in the implementation
of the program is only 2 hours. The training for teachers being trained is about a day's
work.
7. Why is it important for the goals of this program to be consistent with the
stated goals of the school?

It is important to be consistent with the rules of the school because if it is not it will be a
waste. Many teachers will be teaching and disciplining the students differently. The
program is a really long one to implement as it is and if teachers and staff are not
looking for the same goal the program will never be successful.
