I. Will (simple form)


GRAMMAR

Positive: Will Negative will not. Short form won`t. Interrogative form

S + will + infinitive + C. S + will not (won`t) + infinitive + C. Will + S + infinitive + C

 We will finish this semester next March 16, we hope so.


 We won`t start next semester soon.
 Will you travel anywhere next month?
Yes I will / No I won`t
 Where will you travel?
I`ll travel to Colombia.

Short form or contracted form:

A: We use will to talk (predict) about futures development that we are certain about.

Positive:
One sensor will stop the driver falling asleep.
= subject+ will + infinitive

Negative:
Traffic congestion will not be an easy problem to solve.
= subject+ will not (won't)+ infinitive

Questions:
Will the car of the future be very different? (Yes /No question) Yes, it will. / No, it won`t

How will the car of the future be powered? (information question / wh..?).... S + will + infinitive + C.
It will be powered with air
= (question word + ) will + subject + infinitive.

Complete the sentences. Use will, won`t.


Predictions about the future:

1. We …won`t………..use petrol engines in the future. There are better alternatives


2. Hydrogen fuel cells ……will…………….get cheaper as technology improves.
3. Cars ………will…….become much safer with the addition of many sensors.

B: “Will” is used in Instant decisions for future:

1. It just started raining. I…won`t……go out after all.

C: Invitations (will – won t)

1. We are travelling to Arequipa next Thursday. ……will……. you come with us?

II. Shall (modal verb) (polite form)


 "Shall" is a modal verb used to indicate future action. 

 It is most commonly used in sentences with "I" or "we," and is often found in suggestions, such as "Shall
we go?"

 "Shall" is also frequently used in promises or voluntary actions.

GRAMMAR

Positive: Shall Negative shall not. Short form shan't. Interrogative form

S + shall + infinitive + C. S + shall not (shan`t) + infinitive + C. Shall + S + infinitive + C

1. Shall is used with I and we for talking about or predicting the future.
Examples:

 This time next week I shall be in Scotland.

 We shan't be longtime.

2. Used in questions with I and we for making offers or suggestions or asking advice.
Examples:

 Shall I send you the book?

 What shall we do this weekend?

 Let's look at it again, shall we? (tag question)
