They ust not be removed, painted or otherwise obliterated. Al Chiksan sour gas swivel joints are painted with a green zine ehtomates, regardless of raled working pressure. “IMPORTANT: Since swivel joints may be repainted a different color by users, do not use color as'a primary ‘means of identification. Users may subject naw Chiksan swivel joints to @ one-time static shop test of mes the rated cold warking preseure. Standard factory pressure testing is limred to 3000 pt fo avoid ‘damaging end connections. Testing at higher pressures may be frranged on customer request CAUTION: The rated working pressure Is not to be exceeded during fleld service or field testing. “The maximum operating temperature for swivel joints with {uoracarbon packing (FMC Compound HH) Is 400°F (240°C) However, exposure to wel fuids at temperatures above 160°F (71°C) may accelerate deterioration ofthe elastomeric packing {28 a resull of compression fo}, tearing, chemical tack or gas bsomption. The minimum operating temperature 16 +20°F (6°C). ‘Ascomblies consisting of components with cillerent pressure ralings are always limited to the lowest Inalvidual component, Leek Detection All Chiksan sour gas swivel joints have a leak detector port wien is open fo he amosphore. FMC recommends tat Users ports during and alter each use of the swivel joint When lekage is Getoced, Ihe swivel must be repacked 28 eon a8 possible fo prevent fluc from contaminating ball aces and lo protect against a severe escape of hazardous fluid, NOTE: Ports must remain open at all times. Use of excessive hammering force or overtightening can damage wing unions and must be avoided. Threaded end connections are not available on sour gas ‘Snivel joints with pressure ratings above 5,000 psi cold working pressure Longsweep swivel joints are not intended for service in assemblies, flares, or machines which inhib! rotation about iho centerline Alignment and cancanitciy of bearings with the fend connections requite a Iota lack of constraint assure ‘dopendabie eervice Applications Although Longsweep swivel joints can be rotated or oscillated while under fuid pressure, seal and bearing life may be ‘dramatically shortened if they are subjected to significant ‘motion at high pressure. Applied bending of tensile forces wil recut in stesses and baalbrace loads which aad to those induced by Internal pressure, It ioads are fo be apple, consult factory Ia determine limutations that may result ‘Gases at high pressure (especially carbon doxide and hydrogen sulfide) tend to permeato elastomers, resulting in blistering or rupturing when pressure is released. Aer known ‘exposure 10 gas pressures above 2000 psi FMC recommends {hat swivel joints be examined frequently and damaged pack- ings replaced IMPORTANT: Longsweep swivel joints for standard service are not suitable for use in sour gas environments, because they are susceptible to stress corrosion cracking. Chiksan sour gas swivel joints, designed and manufactured In conformance with NACE MR-O1-75, should be used for Ha sorvice, Longeweep swivel oints are not recommended tor applications where rotating torque may be a critical factor. ‘These awivel joints have relatively high torque levels, ‘especially at high pressures, and torque will vary as much 58.80 porcent between swivel joints. ‘Some Longsweep swivel jolnts may be furnished with external seals and ball plug seals which permite use in Submerged service. Before installing Longsweep swivel Joints under water, consult FMC to make sure the proper swivel joint Is being used. ‘Swivel Life and Preventive Maintenance Because normal applications for Longswoep swivel joints involve handling of abrasive oF corrosive fluids at relatively high flow velocities, internal surlaces may be subject fo accelerated elerioration as indicated by foss of wal thickness, ping and wear on sealing surfaces, of possible bal race damage Packing leakage was not detected early ‘To prevent leakage, maliunctions resiting from internal vear, packing degradation, or ball-race deterioration, the user must festabish a Preventive Mainienance and Inspection Program This program mus| include: inspection of pars 10 detect loss of wal thickness which may result in decreased pressure capaciy routine replacement of packings: and regularly scheduled lubrication Repacking Instructions IMPORTANT: Swivel joints which exhibit a toss of wall thickness exceeding 20 percent at any point must be taken out of service. Wall thickness may be measured Using visual, sonic or mechanical means. Alter handling acids or other cowosive fluids, swivel oints ‘must be flushed out with water to prevent Continued corrosion and deterioration when notin service BALL BEARINGS, SNAP RING cae Cay PLU ine GREASE RETAINER ANT-EXTRUSION (See Inset A) ING LEAK DETECTOR PACKING SS on S—sam ‘Snap Ring al Pog Ball Plug 3° HPTL neat 5 ‘Special Tools “Truare pliers, awl or similar pointed tool, vise, screwdriver.
