LEARNING OUTCOME

Introduce fundamental concepts of Kinematics

To familiarize students with basic types of mechanisms, joints and motion

To determine degree of freedom (mobility) and equivalent linkages
To perform position, velocity and acceleration analyses using graphical and analytical
methods
To perform dynamic force analysis in linkages
Develop the understanding of static and dynamic balancing
To analyse and design cam-follower mechanisms

COURSE TARGETS

S.No Outcomes Level of PLO

Learning
1 Identify mechanisms and compute C3 1
the degrees of freedom of
mechanisms
2 Design mechanisms to fulfil motion C6 3
generation and quick return
requirements
3 Predict the positions, velocities and C3 2
accelerations of links and points on
mechanism
4 Compute dynamic joint forces of C3 2
mechanisms

HOMEWORK POLICY *:
Homework will be handed out in class at the end of lectures
and will also be available on line to download. Students are
expected to do their homework themselves and hand in their
work before dead line. After dead line homework will not be
accepted. If struggling with homework, seek out help from me.
However, the solutions will be provided.
EXAMINATIONS *:
There will be two closed book, closed notes midterm exams
during the course.

A closed book, closed notes final exam at the end of the

semester.

HOUSE RULES
Absolutely no mobile use is allowed in class what so ever.
Keep phones in bag or pocket.
Be on time.
All students must be respectful of the instructors as well as
other students.
Disruptive behaviour and talking while instructor is talking is
not acceptable.
Raise hand if any question.

ACADEMIC HONESTY
& INTEGRITY*:
Students are expected to conduct themselves professionally and
honestly with high academic integrity at all times. An essential
rule in the University is that all work for which a student
receives a credit be entirely his or her own. When a student
does not follow this rule, s/he is dishonest.

*Students are expected to write neatly and to use clear problem solving formats in their work.
If I have great difficulty in reading a student’s work, marks will be deducted from the total
marks. If student is suspected of cheating no marks or grade will be awarded.
