Techniques you need to use:

Hello! 1. Use of a repeat pattern created in Adobe Illustrator.

2. An understanding of how to Kern a word or phrase.
This is the second brief of 12 featured as part of this course!
Ready to take it on? Here you will find everything you need to create a
professional piece of work ready to show to us, your peers and even Revisit the techniques: #41/365
present in a portfolio.

Your Assignment:

Design an A5 Postcard,
with either a Winter or Spring theme.

Details:
The postcard design should show
off your knowledge of how to
create a repeat pattern.
You have creative freedom to
decide on the elements in the
pattern, design and colour pallet
of the wider postcard design.

The final design must include:
1. A repeat pattern
2. The pattern must use at least
three elements.
3. One word or phrase where
kerning has been considered.

Helpful hints:
1. Take a look at existing icons/imagery which visualise the idea of
either Winter or Spring. Here is a good place start!
2. Choose simple elements to repeat, the three you pick don’t need to
be complex and can use any theme you like.
3. Look at some ways to combine your word/phrase with your pattern
in the final design. Keep an eye on other Postcard designs as well as
editorial and poster designs.

Deliverables

A polished final postcard design.

Which demonstrates the use of both skills mentioned on the previous

page and all the relevant information about the event. Please also
put your postcard design into a PSD mockup. This is a great practice
to get into!

Design tip:
Don’t be afraid to change up your design if you feel
like it’s not working. Or create a few different
patterns to give yourself more to work with.

1. Choose the right site to display your work. Take a look at

2. Make sure it looks professional. It’s good to put your work Liliana Sanches Marina Matau
in mockups or just generally be sure it’s a refined design.

3. No need to post everything you create just the strongest
work you create.
4. Show your design process, it’s great to see initial sketches
and the development stage of creative projects.
