Regent during the King's medical leave end in disaster; he prevented that the giant being king was a
bad idea and that someone else had to rule the kingdom. Before he died, Harold told Shrek about
another heir: his nephew, Arthur "Artie" Pendragon. Meanwhile, Prince Charming vows to himself
that he will become King Far Far away and erase the death of his mother, Fairy Godmother.
Charming goes to the Poison Apple tavern and persuades fairy tale villains to fight for "their
happiness forever."

Shrek, Donkey, and Puss in Boots set off to retrieve Artie; As they sail, Fiona reveals to Shrek that she
is pregnant, much to Shrek's horror, as he believes he is incapable of raising children. The trio travel
to Worcestershire Academy, an elite school of magic, where they discover Artie is a skinny 16-year-
old underachiever. At a school rally, Shrek informs Artie that he will be the king of Far Far Away.
Artie drives until Donkey and Puss accidentally scare him off by discussing the responsibilities of
being king. Soon losing faith in becoming king, Artie tries to control the ship back to Worcestershire,
and when he and Shrek are steered at the helm, the ship breaks and the ship crashes into a desert
island, where they meet Artie's retired wizard teacher, Merlin.

Charming and the others attack the castle, but Wolfie, Pinocchio, Gingy, Three Little Pig and Blind
Mice hold them back long enough for Fiona and her mother Queen Lillian to escape along with Snow
White, Rapunzel, Cinderella, Sleeping Beauty and Doris the Ugly Stepbrother. One of the Pigs
accidentally says that Shrek has gone to retrieve Arthur, and Prince Charming sends Captain Hook
and his pirates to track down Shrek. The women are placed in the tower after Rapunzel betrays
them, after falling in love with Charming.

Captain Hook and his pirates track Shrek and his friends to Merlin Island, where they attempt to
capture Shrek. Shrek defeats the criminals, and Hook mentions Charming and the takeover of Far Far
Away. Shrek urges Artie to return to Worcestershire. Instead, Artie opposed Merlin into using her
magic to send them Far Far Away. The spell causes the Cat and Donkey to accidentally switch bodies.
They find Pinocchio and learn that Charming plans to kill Shrek as part of the game. Charming's
squad arrives, but Artie tricks the knights into not holding them back and they break into the castle
while rehearsing for the play. Trapped in Charming's dressing room, the four of them are taken
prisoner.

Charming prepares to kill Artie, believing he is the next king. To save Artie's life, Shrek tells Charming
that Artie is the piece to replace him as the King of Far Far Away. Charming believes Shrek and lets
Artie go. Donkey and Puss are imprisoned with Fiona and the women, where Fiona grows frustrated
by the lack of initiative. Fiona's mother, Queen Lillian, smashed a hole in the prison's stone wall with
a headbutt. While the princesses launch a rescue mission for Shrek, Donkey and Puss free Gingy,
Pinocchio, Wolf and Pig, and the children of Dragon and Donkey. They meet Artie; Puss and Donkey
defuse it by explaining that Shrek lied to save Artie's life.

along with Puss and Donkey, the princesses and fairy tale characters take on the criminals. They lose:

and Fiona is tied up. Artie shows up and convinces the criminals that just because they are treated
like losers doesn't mean they are definitely losers. The criminals agree to give in to their evil ways,
while Charming refuses to listen and lunges at Artie with his sword, but Shrek blocks the punch, so
Charming attacks him instead. As Shrek pushes Charming aside, the Dragon knocks on Rapunzel's
tower, crushing it to death.

Artie was later crowned king. While the kingdom celebrates, Merlin returns Puss and Donkey to their
true bodies, and Shrek and Fiona return to their swamps, where they become parents of giant
triplets and overcome with the help of Puss, Lillian, Donkey and Dragon.
