Create a 15 minute group presentation (using power point/slides) on one text of your choice
from the course. Be sure to include:
- some context on the author
- analysis of the elements of fiction e.g plot, setting, characters, point of view, style + tone, theme
- figurative language within the text and what effect they have on the reader
- present your presentation professionally, as if you were presenting your own lecture

You will present your presentations to the class on the day of submission. Please also send me a link

Mid-Term Assignment WEEK 6 22.5.21

Option 1.

Write an essay on one text from the course. Identify and analyse the elements of fiction used by the
author. Include analysis of literary devices such as figurative language and literary techniques, and
the effect they have on the reader. Include quotations from the text as evidence to support your
argument.

Option 2.

Write a short piece of creative writing or poetry. If you choose poetry, it must include a
substantial analysis and you must discuss with me first so that we can decide the world limit
together. You can choose any genre and theme you like.
You will be marked on your successful use of elements of fiction, figurative language and literary
techniques to create an interesting plot, characters, intended mood and vivid imagery.
800 words creative
or
500 words creative / 300 words self analysis.
The self analysis will be marked on your ability to reflect and analyse the elements of fiction and
figure of speech in your writing.

Video Project WEEK 7 5.6.21 (makeup class to be confirmed)

In a group of 8-10, choose one text from the course, or another short story from the authors we have
studied, and create a video adaption of your chosen text. Be sure to adhere to the following
criteria:
- The video must be 10-15 minutes
- It must include subtitles
- The video will be marked according to criteria such as: story telling, creativity, communication,
props and costumes (optional), soundtrack/audio track, editing and overall impression
- You will showcase the films in our final week of classes. After you showcase your films, you
will answer some questions about your video from the audience (classmates + lecturer)
- You will then peer review each member of your own group to determine who deserves what
score depending on their effort or contribution to the project
- if you choose a short story by an author from the course that we are not studying, please inform
me before the deadline date so that I can familiarise myself with the text

As well as making sure you are present in class for the showcasing your film, please also have the
representative for your group submit your film to tg.paige@lecturer.hcmue.edu.vn
