Solution:

Given is,
ε x 1 + x2 =1… … …..(1)

ε x 1 + ( ε −1 ) x 2=−1 … … … … .(2)

a)
let ε =0, then equation 1 and 2 will be,
x 2=1

−x 2=−1=¿ x 2=1

Hence, value of ε =0 the solution cannot be obtained using the Cramer’s rule.

b) ε =3, then equation 1 and 2 will be,

3 x 1+ x 2=1 … … … ..(1)

3 x 1+2 x 2=−1 … … … … .(2)

Use Cramer’s Rule to find the values of x 1∧x 2.

x 1 −x 2 1
= =
Dx Dx D
1 2

Now, determinant is,

D=|33 12|=3 ×2−1 ×3=3

1 −1
D =|
2 1|
x1 =1× 1+1× 2=3

3 −1
D =|
3 1|
x2 =3 ×1+1 ×3=6

So,
x1 1
=
Dx D
1

x1 1
=
3 3
x 1=1

Now,
−x 2 1
=
6 3
x 2=−2

Hence,
x 1=1

x 2=−2
