The movie is about a bitter-sweet love story between a human girl, Hotaru, and a spirit named

Gin. Hotaru was six years old when she first met Gin in a forest near her grandfather’s house. She
got lost at that time and could not find the exit. Luckily, Gin, a strange boy with a mask, came and
helped her. Since then, they became friends. Hotaru always looked forward to summer to meet Gin.
They spent many beautiful summers together; they hung out in the forest, picked up flowers, flew
kites and went fishing. However, Hotaru could not touch Gin because he would disappear if he were
touched by a human. Year by year, while Gin was still the same like the first time they met, Hotaru
grew up to be an adorable teenager and she realized that she had fell in love with Gin. In the summer
when Hotaru was in high school, Gin finally told her his story. He was abandoned in the forest when
he was a baby. The mountain god put a spell on him to save his life but the spell would be broken if
a human touched him. Till then, Hotaru confessed her love to him and she was invited to the festival
of spirits. In the festival, they played happily together like a human couple. Unfortunately, at the end
of the festival, Gin suddenly caught a human child and broke the spell. He disappeared but finally,
he was hugged by Hotaru like his dream. Even though Hotaru was very sad, she always kept this
story and all the memories deep in her heart.
