Nursing Interventions

- Inform client that there is no known cure but studies are being done

- Obtain a written consent for HIV testing.

- Do a Pre- and post-test counselling by trained professionals

- Inform the client that treatment assists to slow the decline of the immune system.

-Inform the patient that treatment focuses on alleviating other signs and symptoms

-Refer the client for counselling, social support, behavioural change and care

-Encourage the client to avoid sex with an individual having multiple sex partners and consistent use of latex condom

-Instruct the patient to avoid needle sharing

-Offer testing to HIV-positive women during pregnancy

-Instruct proper nutrition

-Provide psychosocial, spiritual, economic and on-going prevention support

-Do standard precautions to minimize the spread of the diseases most especially in blood transfusions and needle
pricks

-Monitor patient’s I&O to assess patient’s health during care

-Encourage the patient to increase food and fluid intake

-Encourage the patient to verbalize feelings and concerns
