CLASSIFICATIONS: the chloride binding site of
Diuretics the 1Na+, 1K+, 2Cl-
DOSE: cotransport system. Loop
Adults: 10mg diuretics increase the rate
of delivery of tubular fluid
and electrolytes to the
distal sites of hydrogen and
potassium ion secretion.
While plasma volume
contraction increases
aldosterone production.
The increased delivery and
high aldosterone levels
promote sodium
reabsorption at the distal
tubules, this increased the
loss of potassium and
hydrogen ions.
SIDE EFFECTS/ ADVERSE NURSING
Edema due to cardiac -Low blood pressure -Asses patient
hepatic and renal disease, -Dehydration and S underlying condition
burns, mild to moderate electrolyte depletion before starting the therapy
hypertension, -jaundice -Monitor for renal, cardiac
Hypertensive crisis, acute -ringing in the ears and neurologic and GI
heart failure, reduced -photophobia manifestations of
urinary output due to -rash hypokalemia
gestates, chronic renal -pancreatitis -Monitor for CNS, GI,
failure, nephrotic -nausea cardiovascular
syndrome -diarrhea integumentary neurologic
