Urbanization in Japan causing rural schools run out of students

The current situation in rural schools is one that begs the question that a proper

resolution of urbanization in Japan needs to be thought over. With increased urbanization,

population decline and ageing society, Japan’s rural schools are facing a crisis with dwindling

numbers of students. The article focuses on the decrease in the number of students due to the

migration in the country. It is evident that the population demographics in Japan is urban

concentrated with over half of it living in the greater Tokyo area. Schools are closing down

with rural students having to commute over long distances so as to get to where there are

educational facilities. Urbanization in Japan is causing rural children to lose touch with their

social skills because they lack peers while growing up and to interact with. Although this

might seem like a negative aspect it also has its upside. I believe Japan has excellent

elementary education and having smaller classes improves teacher-student relations

tremendously making it feel like a family unit rather than a class. The instructor will have a

better personal connection with their students, understanding their weaknesses and using

different fonts to tackle each student’s abilities. Japan needs to assertively deal with the

current problem brewing with its reduced population especially in rural areas before an

economic and social problem erupts causing a massive failure in the economy.

Urban migration coupled up with the reduced birth rate in Japan’s economy may

result in less crowding in fewer traffic jams, public transport, and more space. In the current

urban situation in Japan, little or no space is left for expansions. Hotels have also adapted to

the lack space by creating rooms in form of capsules. It is apparent that urbanization in the

country has resulted in overcrowding which has caused houses being built to extremely

smaller units. The work population in rural areas is declining at an alarming rate due to the

urban migration. Machine use is being embraced by more rural dwellers as farming is now

down by automated machines in many countryside of Japan. The Japanese society out to

correct this situation by encouraging more births and developing strategies that would reduce

urban migration correcting the current problem of the economy. In my opinion, reduced

number of students may result in an increase in well-educated rural individuals who may

develop these rural regions thus solving the current urban migration, making the situation dire

but more like an opportunity for the country to solve its current economic crisis.
