IN CLASS QUESTION

Students should have at least FIFTEEN (15) minutes to complete the question chosen.

Biology

1. Estheban is investigating the effect of the availability of light on the rate of photosynthesis in
a plant. He collects leaves from three different areas. The first one, labelled A, has high
sunlight availability. The second one, B, has no sunlight available and, C, which has a normal
amount of sunlight.
a) Define the term photosynthesis.
b) Describe the food test that Estheban would have to use in order to determine if
photosynthesis occurred.
c) When the leaf labelled B was tested, it came back negative for the test mentioned B.
State a reason why this is so.
2. The Biology students of trinity academy are assigned an SBA to investigate the different
types of nutrition observed in the school. During their investigation, the students come
across some students eating lunch in the cafeteria, a mango tree which has ripe mangoes
and some mushrooms growing outside the back-laboratory door.
a) What is saprophytic nutrition?
b) State the different types of nutrition observed by the students during their investigation.
c) Considering the fact that mushrooms are growing outside the back-laboratory door, give
one conclusion that the students may come to regarding living organisms within that
area.

Integrated Science

1. The Integrated Science students of Trinity Academy are tasked with investigating air
pollution within Antigua and Barbuda and then to subsequently, present their findings.
During their investigation they noticed carbon dioxide being produced by motor vehicles on
the road.
a) What is air pollution?
(2 marks)
b) It is said that carbon dioxide contributes to the ‘green-house’ effect. What is the green-
house effect?
(2 marks)
c) In St. John’s there a status of a national hero made out limestone (calcium carbonate).
The statue has small gashes and holes. Explain how the production of carbon dioxide is
related to the eroding of the statue. {Hint: calcium carbonate is soluble in acid}
(3 marks)
2. Keshawn recently went for his routine checkup by his doctor. After reviewing the results
from his blood test, the doctor revealed that his red blood cell count was low.
a) Name the three types of blood vessels found in mammals.
(3 marks)
b) When the nurse was taking Keshawn’s blood for the blood test, she inserted the needle
around an area where there was a green line on Keshawn’s arm. Name the blood vessel
represented by the green line and state the type of blood being carried by the vessel.
(2 marks)
c) Red blood cells have the responsibility of carrying oxygen around the body to various
cells. State a negative effect that Keshawn could experience because of his low red blood
cell count.
(3 marks)

I.I.S

Draw the nitrogen cycle and explain one of the stages in detail.

Physics

1.
a) Define the term ‘moment of a force’
b) State the principle of moment.
c) Elestoniq and Alliann are using the seesaw at the park. If Elestoniq is 3 metres away
from the fulcrum (centre) and she weighs 90kg, how far should 100 kg Alliann sit away
from the fulcrum in order to balance the see saw?
2.
a) Explain what is meant by the terms 'speed' and 'velocity'.
b) State Newton’s three laws of motion.
c) After spending a really long day at school, a tired Tony accidently walks into his
neighbour’s yard. He his chased by their dog until he manages to scale over the fence
into his yard. If Tony had a speed of 5ms -1 for a total of 20 seconds, how much distance
did he cover in order to get into his yard. {Assume that Tony’s speed was constant}.
