Three Phase Circuits Analysis

Objectives

To determine the steady state phasor voltage and current at a single frequency for balanced
Three phase voltage sources.

Introduction

A balanced three phase circuit consisted of three voltage sources having same magnitude and
frequency but diffent phase is constructed using PsPise software. AC volmeter (VPrint2) and
ammeter (IPrint) is used for meauring steady state phasor voltage and current. The circuit
diagram of balanced three phase circuit is shown in Fig. 6-1.

AC Analysis: Procedure

1. First obtain the schematics window by double clicking the Schematics icon.

2. Obtain ac voltage source VAC, resistor R, ac ammeter IPRINT, ac voltmeter

VPRINT2 and electrical ground EGND as explained earlier.

3. Make circuit as shown in Fig. 6-1.

4. Double click ac voltage source and E Part Name: VAC dialog box will appear.
Provide the information as shown in Fig. 6-2. Type 120V against ACMAG of each
source and click Save Attr button to save. Type 0, -120 and -240 against ACPHASE
for each source and click Save Attr button. Click Change Display button for each
entry and Change Attribute dialog box will appear. Select both name and value.

5. Now double click IPRINT and VPRINT2 one by one. In the resulting dialog box
make AC = ok, MAG = ok and PHASE = ok. Display is adjusted in the same way.
Or you can use markers i.e. Voltage marker and Differential Marker.

6. Before we analyze the network we must save the schematic.

7. Now Analysis-Setup results in the Analysis Setup dialog box as shown in Fig. 6-3 in
which AC Sweep and Bias Point Detail should be enabled. To set the frequency of ac
voltage source click the button AC Sweep and AC Sweep and Noise Analysis dialog
box will appear. Provide information as shown.
