Happy New Year!!!!!
Ok, let’s all just take a BIG BREATH OUT!
We don’t even need to say, “that was quite the year.”
you name it. But, many of us also found silver linings—learning new hobbies, spending
more time with family, and shifting priorities.
One thing is clear, we’re all, undoubtedly, looking forward to 2021.
Last few days, the turmoil in RM supply chain is unprecedented and has completely
caught us by surprise. Direct Costs (RM Costs by 30%-40%, Ferro Alloys & Consumables
by 20%-30%,Resin’s MDI-AMINE by 200%,Sand by 50%, Labour by 20%-30% and
Transport by 20%-30%) have gone up by more than Rs 15/Kg. Such an increase in cost
we wouldn’t have envisaged.

The above price trend of 10thDecember received from Foundry magazine shows the
rapidness with which the costs have been increasing is also on Weekly basis and
therefore quarterly under the circumstances may not be prudent. We should first shift to
monthly averaging. These apart, there are indirect cost increases by way of finance cost
and GST related cash flow costs. As seen from above, it’s time we start covering all these
costs as Price Variation Clause (PVC) in our offers to customers.
Chairman Mr. Manish Patrikar of WR puts forward his views:
A) ALWAYS Need to focus on ‘Least waste ways’, ‘adapt technology’, ‘reduce rejection’ to
stop siphoning our own profits from our pockets
B) A benchmark Index published in ‘Indian Foundry Journal’ or ‘MMR’ on pricing has to be
followed by all casting buyer to decide pricing ‘Monthly Basis’ instead of ‘Quarterly
Average basis’
C) OEM’s & Casting buyer also need to support foundry Industry on ‘ SOS’ by existing
relevant price increase with immediate effect monthly basis. Selective treatment to SME-
MSME will only lead to unhealthy balance. Casting buyer should have transparency for
pricing with fare comparison for MSME, SME & Large scale Industry in the mutual
interest.
D) Apart from Scrap, Pig Iron & Electricity, casting buyer also need to consider Labour
cost, Alloys cast & Additives cost. Additive cost like Resin’s MDI-AMINE are increased by
200% in last few months. Cost of transportation also increased by 10-20% for major
goods. While deciding casting pricing this has significantly impacted Foundry Industry.

As many of us operate in the same market with many common customers / industries,
there is a immediate need for us to address this together as casting manufacturers.
After due understanding of the prevailing situation, our only option is to approach
customers for right and timely compensation.
Positivity of such initiative is huge and if not done now then many of casting
manufacturers could be disorganized.
