Homosexual marriage should be illegal because it hurts others, it puts a negative effect on

children, and it is against our nation. Many would argue that homosexuality was around even

before Jesus Christ Himself was born. True as that may be, and as widely accepted as it was and

still is, homosexual marriage was still condemned. This topic has been debated bringing up many

valid points, but the fact of the matter is that homosexual marriages are wrong and we, as a

country, should not condone such acts.

First, homosexual marriage should be illegal because many people are getting hurt by the

ideals that support homosexuality. Because of this support, not only is it luring more young

adults to test out a homosexual behavior and life style, but it is also making the struggle more

difficult for gays who want to leave that lifestyle. Another way same-sex marriage hurts people

is by their constant seeking out of Christian people, leaders, and organizations to hold their

wedding ceremonies. It seems that they are choosing these groups just because of the fact that

they can prosecute them if they do not go through with the wedding. This means Christians have

to either pay a large fine to these couples or go against their beliefs and wed them. Michael

Coren puts it, “it’s becoming obvious that Christian people, leaders, and organizations are being

targeted, almost certainly to create legal precedents”-Precedents intended to silence and punish

anyone who dares to disagree with so-called gay “marriage.” (LifeSiteNews Mobile)
Next, another reason same-sex marriage should be illegal is because the negative effects

are significant on our children. Many believe that if a couple of the same sex adopts a child, it

deprives the child of the right to have both a mother and a father. Heterosexual marriages who

believe in gay rights are so caught up in “equality” and “rights” that they forget about what is

best for the children. Along with this, we know that children with two mothers and no father or

two Fathers and no mother seem to have more health consequences because of depression and

bullying.

Last, gays should not be allowed to marry because it is against our nation. We are a

nation under God, so why don’t we at least try to keep God’s perspective on same-sex marriage.

When God wanted Adam to have a spouse, he gave him a woman not another man. God said

himself that marriage was made for man and woman. Even though he did not really hit on the

subject very much, it is still every clear how he felt about marriage. Just because you fell like

something is right, it does not make it right to do. Sin is still sin no matter how you look at it.

“Like drugs, like adultery, like the abuse of alcohol or the love of money, or the power rush of

human ego trips, there are emotions which are powerful and addictive and ultimately terribly

destructive. Same sex marriages must satisfy criteria other than emotion.” (What Does the Bible

Say about Same Sex Marriage)

The reason homosexual marriage should be illegal is because it hurts others, it puts a

negative effect on children, and it is against our nation. We can’t just look at it as just “equality”

and “rights”, but also the rights and fairness of our children. It is not fair to them that they get

looked down upon because of something they had no control over and had no say in. It is not fair

that others have to give up their beliefs, which are actually reasonable, that have been around for
years just to satisfy a couple. This nation is supposed to be under God, so why would we do

something that was against him?
