Be careful not to touch these pars at these times. Fit Be sure to use the appropriate filters for the station (ceramic paper fiter (S)filter case) and the iron (ceramic paper filter (Liter pipe). Using the wrong fiter may resutt in a power top or damage to the unit. Mishandling ‘Sharp impacts may cause parts to break or the power to drop, Handle the desoldering iron sta tion with care Maintenance With proper care, the Hakko 472/473 can provide years of reliable service. Be sure to inspect the station and iron regularly following the maintenance procedures on page six (6) of this instruction manual. (See illustration at right) Caution: Use only a dampened and wrung cleaning sponge to clean the nozzle. Using a dry sponge will reduce the lite of the nozzle. Notes: 1. The sponges are compressed. They will swell when moistened with water. 2, The capilary sponge will absorb water from the reservoir and, by capillary action, tanster water to the cleaning sponge, thus keeping the cleaning sponge moist at al times, 3. The cleaning sponge may be used by itself by ‘Gampening it, squeezing it dry, and pacing it on the iron holder base. itis not necessary to use the capilary sponge or add water to the reservor Assemble the Desoldering Iron a) Insert the fiter pipe (wifiter hoider/spring fiter ‘ceramic paper fiter (L)} into the housing, ) Push and turn clockwise the back holder. Station ‘Connections 6 Set the Temperature The temperature can be adjusted to between 662°F and 842°F with the temperature control knob. This unit has excellent thermal recovery, permitting it to operate at lower temperatures than conventional desokdering tools. + The temperature can be more precisely set using a soldering iron thermometer. Adjust the temperature control knob until the mea- sured temperature at the nozzle is the desired temperature. + The temperature control knob can be secured by tightening the temperature con- {rol knob securing screw ("+" screw at the top of the unit Tubing: Must have a diameter of more than 90.17 in., and a length of less than 95 ft L_rey Male Connector: Pipe Thread 1/8 Apply the nozzle to the soldered lead and rmett the solder. Confirm that the soider is melted by placing the nozzle against the lead and carefully applying slight pressure to the lead. If the lead moves, the solder is melted. Never ‘move the lead by force. If the lead does not ‘move easily, the solder is not fully melted. ‘Absorb the solder by pressing the button on the iron. It solder remains, resoider the component.
