Applying Parametric Modelling to Gears

Once the initial basic geometry model of the gear is created, with the patterned
cut outs which represent the spaces between gear teeth. It is necessary to
develop the "parametric Version" of the gear. Before starting the design table it is
essential to identify the "Drivers" for the gear model? i.e. the variables which are
used to calculate the key gear dimensions.

 Create a design table by importing all the necessary dimension and feature
variables needed to control the geometry. Note not every feature or dimension
is necessary as some features won't change as the model is regenerated
using different "Drivers".
 Remember that some of the variable values are being determined by the
sketch geometry and these will not need to be determined by design table
equations.
 The design table at this stage is a default configuration which is now
populated by "dumb numbers" which have originated from the SolidWorks
sketch and model.
 Add enough columns for the "Drivers" to the design table. Remember leave at
least one blank column between feature variables and any "Drivers" This is
good practice.
 Replace the "dumb numbers" with equations relating to gear design.
 Configurations can now be created to test the model behaves as expected
and provide an opportunity to "de-bug" syntax / typo errors in equations.
 Please remember once the design table has been created, it is also possible
to add in additional features or dimensions as the design develops.
