Turn Mill Example - Main Steps to apply to Class Turning Example IS.

 Cam Settings - Mill Turn Tab

Make sure all check boxes for part / stock and co-ordinate
system are unchecked i.e to be defined by the user.

Mill-Turn

 Define Co-ordinate systems. (2 required - MAC 1 on end of shaft with x


pointing vertically upwards and z pointing along axis of part away from chuck,
this is for the turning operations. The second MAC 2 in the same place but
with the z direction pointing away from the milled flat, this is to be used for the
milling operation.
 Define the stock by using the revolved boundary around z and selecting the
sketch which identifies the material
 Define the fixture by creating a user defined chuck jaw and again select the
chain of the sketch provided.
 Define the target by selecting the finished part.

Now it is possible to create the operations required.

Operations

MAC1

 Add turning operation - Face Select outer face on end of shaft (make sure tool
and tool holder are correctly orientated and of suitable dimensions for the part
geometry)
 Add turning operation - Rough turn - Select outer profile of shaft skipping over
groove. Again check that tool and holder orientation is correct.
 Add turning operation - Finish turn - Select outer profile of shaft skipping over
groove. Again check that tool and holder orientation is correct.
 Select turning operation groove - Select profile of groove. Ensure correct tool
is selected and geometry faces correct direction.

MAC2

 Add milling operation - Create milling operation pocket select chain round
outside of milled flat. Rt. click on chain and select open edges i.e. the edges
which are parallel to the axis of the shaft. Select suitable milling cutter which
will cut the flat on the shaft. Remember to define the upper and lower levels of
the operation.
