Strap Clamp

Step Clamp holding down plate, step block supporting end of clamp,
and bolt goes through T-Slot
Why Need Jig & Fixture?
 To reduce cost of production
 Increase productivity
 To ensure accuracy of component
 For mass production
 To improve quality
Difference between Jigs & Fixtures

 Jig
 Locate-Guide cutting tool
 Skilled workers are not required
 Fixture
 Locate-Support-Hold workpiece
 Accuracy depend on skill and machine
 Build stronger & heavier
Location Principle
 The 3-2-1 location principle is used to ensure
that every part placed in the device occupies
the same position with respect to the cutting
tools
 The principle is based on first establishing a
plane, locating the part on three fixed points.
 Then location the part to a second plane,
perpendicular to the first by using two points.
 And finally locating the part relative to the first two
planes by establishing a third plane perpendicular
to the first two planes using a single point.
Degrees of Freedom
1.Translational position along the X-axis
2.Translational position along the Y-axis
3.Translational position along the Z-axis
4.Rotational position about the X-axis
5.Rotational position about the Y-axis
6.Rotational position about the Z-axis

FIGURE 25-3
Workpiece location is
based on the 3-2-1
principle. Three points
will define a base
surface,
two points in a vertical
plane will establish an
end reference, and
one point in a third
plane will positively
locate most parts.

V-BLOCK JIGS
 Used to drilling radial holes in cylindrical or
spherical workpiece.
 It mainly consist of the V-block clamping plate.
Case Study : Mass production of
Electronic Packaging in CNC machining

Requirement:
1.Mass production (Q >50 PCS)
2.Eliminate repetitive steps in work-offset origin
3.Fool-proof method
Solution Jig plate

Pin locator
Strategy:
1.Use jig plate and pin locator for positioning (fixture) – lock X&Y
axis
2.Use strap clamp to lock rotation and movement in Z axis
