The History of King Richard III (c. 1514-18, extract): Sir Thomas Moore (1478-1535)
English humanist scholar, lawyer. He is famous for refusing to accept King Henry VIII as
the supreme head of the Church of England. This led to his execution as a traitor. His most
famous works are Utopia and The History of King Richard III. This latter, which portrayed
the last Yorkish king as a monstrous individual, influenced Shakespeare’s Richard III.
