Reflective Journal #1

SY 066 Sociology of Community: The Indigenous Context

Value: 7.5% of final grade

Purpose: The Reflective Journals are designed to provide students with an opportunity to reflect upon
their personal learning in the SY 066 course.

Guidelines:

1. Reflections need to be typed with standard margins using 12 pt. font.


2. Reflections need to be two pages in length (excluding title page).
3. Include a title page using APA formatting.
4. Reflections are to be written in full sentence and paragraph structures and are to be free
from spelling and grammatical errors.
5. Reflections are to be submitted on Blackboard under the assignment tab.
6. Late assignment will be penalized 10% per day.

Answer the following questions in an essay style format:

1. Summarize what you learned about residential schools. This information needs to come from
our textbook, class lectures, class discussions, the documentaries “We Were Children.”
“Residential Schools: Truth and Healing”. – 5 marks
2. Did the documentaries challenge or contradict your initial understanding of the impact of
Residential Schools? Explain why or why not. – 5 marks
3. What are your personal reflections on the documentaries “We Were Children” and “Residential
Schools: Truth and Healing”? – 5 marks

• Assignment is well written with no spelling or grammar errors. Thoughts are clearly organized. –
5 marks
