While the Ion Trap once had selectivity advantages, technologies like Agilent's 7000C Triple Quadrupole GC/MS now provide greater selectivity.     This product has been scheduled for discontinuance, effective July 31, 2014.

    Over the last 5 years Agilent has seen an explosive growth in high-end GC/MS with a particular focus on increased selectivity.
    Complex sample matrices, such as food materials, have driven innovations in Tandem Quadrupole MS and most recently
    Quadrupole Time of Flight MS. The selectivity advantage that the Ion Trap once had in the past has been rapidly replaced by
    Tandem Quadrupole GC/MS systems. Worldwide, we continue to see older Ion Traps replaced with our 7000C Triple Quadrupole
    GC/MS System.

    We understand this decision directly impacts future purchase decisions for your lab. The decision to discontinue the production of
    the Ion Trap will not change Agilent’s 7 year/10 year End of Support policy that covers your existing Ion Trap GC/MS systems.
