Capilano University AEM Student Practicum Placement

Organization:
Music on Main presents one of Canada’s leading music series in venues around Metro Vancouver. The
company’s artistic vision is grounded in presenting top-flight classical, new, and genre-bending music in
environments that are intimate and social, offering access to music, artistic adventure, and community
while breaking down barriers between artists and audiences. Since 2006, the organization has developed
locally, nationally, and internationally lauded programming, featuring more than 700 musicians, over 270
concerts, and in excess of 50 world premieres. Independent and vibrant, Music on Main strives for game-
changing production values, rock-solid administration, enhanced audience-artist interaction, and industry-
leading fundraising. Music on Main is a core tenant in The Post at 750, a new 8,500 square foot cultural
hub in downtown Vancouver with co-location partners PuSh International Performing Arts Festival,

Description:
Music on Main seeks a Capilano University AEM Practicum Student who has a keen interest in arts
administration, including concert planning, producing, marketing, communications, and fund development.
Working closely with Music on Main’s Artistic Director and Communications Manager, and reporting to the
Artistic Planning & Operations Manager, the Capilano University AEM Practicum Student will assist
with:
• Artistic Administration and Production, including but not limited to: artistic planning, scheduling,
logistics, artist hospitality, concert and project management, statistics, and reporting.
• Marketing & Communications, including but not limited to: media communications, marketing
materials, programme layout, box office, database management, and audience services.
• Fund Development, including but not limited to: annual fundraising campaigns, fundraising
materials, and donor events.

Qualifications:
Our ideal candidate is a motivated self-starter with an entrepreneurial spirit, a passion for the performing
arts, and an interest in arts administration, including working with professional musicians and music
organizations, concert planning and producing, project management, database management, and
marketing and communications. The ideal candidate is comfortable working both independently and
collaboratively, takes direction well, has excellent communication and interpersonal skills, and
demonstrates strong initiative.

Dates:
September – December 2016. Hours are flexible. A successful applicant will benefit from direct
involvement in concerts and events for our Modulus Festival: November 4-10, 2016, and concerts for our
Main Series on September 1, October 18, and December 15-16, 2016.
