WALK normally back and forth.


Walk using TIPTOES back and forth.
Walk using HEELS back and forth.
Walk using HEEL-TOE back and forth.

1. Perform the Romberg’s test, ask the patient to stand straight with feet together, both eyes
closed with arms at side. Wait for 20 second and observe for patient swaying and ability to
maintain balance. Nurse must be alert to prevent fall or injury related to losing balance doing
this assessment.

FINE MOTOR TEST FOR UPPER EXTREMITIES


Touch nose with your fingers EYES OPEN.
Touch nose with your fingers EYES CLOSED.
Pat both knees with PALMS of both hands and then the BACK of the hands in an ever increasing
rate.
FINGER-NOSE and to the NURSE’S INDEX FINGER held at the distance of 18 inches at a rapid
increasing rate.
FINGERS-FINGERS with eyes open and eyes closed.
