1. The sum of two fractions is 1 4. The ratio of the numerators is 9:17 and the ratio of the corresponding
denominators is 1:2.

3. Solve the following pair of equations graphically. (16 Marks)

4. An empty 200-litre water tank is being filled at a constant rate of 5 litres per minute. When the tank is
25% full, a leak develops at the bottom of the tank. As a result, water escapes at a constant rate of 2 litres
per minute. How long will it take (from the instant it was being filled) for the water level to reach the top
of the tank? (4 Marks)

5. The monthly salaries of Mary and June are in the ratio 5:6. Mary spends $3000 of her salary and June
spends $4000 of her salary. If the ratio of the respective balances of their salaries is 7:8, determine their
monthly salaries. (7 Marks)

6. Ten years ago Tim was twice as old as his brother Tom. Five years from now, their respective ages will be
in the ratio 5:4.
Determine their current ages. (9 Marks)

7. Two friends, A and B, each have marbles. If A gives one quarter of his marbles to B they will both have an
equal number of marbles. But if B gives three of his marbles to A, then A will have ten more marbles than
B. How many marbles do A and B each have?
