The Public Health Scotland (PHS) dashboard provides a full adjusted time series of
cases, based on when people were first tested positive, for NHS Scotland and UKG
tests combined.

Total negative cases on 27/4/20 was corrected from 39,773 to 39,733 on 12/11/20
Total people tested on 28/4/20 was corrected from 51,499 to 51,449 on 12/11/20
Total positive cases on 2/6/20 was corrected from 15,741 to 15,471 the same day.
Total negative cases on 13/7/20 was corrected from 284,487 to 284,447 on 15/7/20.
(ii) The daily number of new positive cases of COVID-19 reported in Scotland. Up
until 14/06/2020 these numbers are based on tests carried out through NHS
Scotland labs only. From 15/06/2020 they also include people tested through the
UKG testing programme. Previous data have not been adjusted to account for the
UKG data and other corrections, so the total of the daily numbers is 2,246 fewer
than the cumulative total.
The PHS dashboard contains a full time series, based on when people were first
tested positive, for NHS Scotland and UKG tests combined.
The daily total of people found positive on 2/6/20 contains 40 historic samples from a NHS
Fife laboratory.
This also shows, just for information, the positivity rate as previously reported on
the SG website - number of new positive cases as a percentage of number of
people newly tested. We are moving to a new headline figure based on test
positivity.
(iii) the total number of COVID-19 tests with results in the Health Protection
Scotland ECOSS system reported to HPS by the laboratories in the 24 hours from
08:00 to 08:00 that day. This figure is higher than the number of people tested, as
people could have more than one test.
With effect from 30/4/20, the total cumulative number of tests includes an additional
2,137 historical tests, which were added to the total following the resolution of technical
difficulties.
On 27/11/20 the total cumulative tests was adjusted to remove some duplicate records
(iv) Up until 7 July 2020, the total number of COVID-19 tests carried out each day,
and to date by Regional Testing Centres (RTC) as part of the UK Government
testing programme, and reported through Department of Health and Social Care
based on data from the contractors who operate the centres. This included tests
done at the drive through centres and mobile units, but not home testing kits. The
following revisions have been made to these figures:
28/5/20 revised on 29/5/20, reducing by 20, from 1,445 to 1,425.
6/6/20 was corrected from 1,349 to 1,422.
15/7/20 was revised from 2,985 to 2,984 on 16/7/20
29/7/20 was corrected from 4,904 to 4,907 on 30/7/20

based on data from the contractors who operate the centres. This included tests

15/7/20 was revised from 2,985 to 2,984 on 16/7/20
29/7/20 was corrected from 4,904 to 4,907 on 30/7/20
From 8 July 2020 onwards, the total number of COVID-19 with results in the
Health Protection Scotland ECOSS system reported from the UK Government
testing programme - including those reported from home testing kits and the
social care portal, as well as drive throughs and mobile units. These now
reflect number of test results reported on, while previous numbers showed
tests carried out. Therefore void tests are no longer included.
(v) Additional statistics shows the calculation of test positivity and weekly figures.
2. The dates in the table refer to the date the figures were reported on the Scottish
Government website. The daily numbers will therefore refer to activity the day
before.
3. Where labs do not provide their overnight data in time for the daily publication,
the testing figures will then be added to the return for the subsequent day. Figures
may also be revised if labs discover an error and have to resubmit their data.
4. It should be noted that testing capacity tends to be lower at weekends, and on
public holidays.
5. There are currently some cases included where people are resident elsewhere in
the UK but either were tested in Scotland or used Scottish postcodes. Public Health
Scotland are working to identify these cases.
6. Figures for 18-20 October have been affected by delays in test results being
processed.

This data is provided each day by NHS National Services Scotland on behalf of 21
NHS Boards, and by the Scottish Ambulance Service separately. It covers hospitals
and community health services, and excludes those working in general practice.
All staff-in-post are included – both those on the frontline and those who may not
have patient contact.
Accuracy and completeness is dependent on staff who directly deliver patient
services, and administrators, inputting absence data into the NHS Scotland
national time and attendance system (SSTS). The figures cover all staff recorded
as absent on the system, irrespective of whether they were due to be at work on
that particular day.
Recording processes vary between Boards and service areas. In particular, the
timing of absence recording will vary, and some absences may not be recorded
timeously. We will consider whether it is necessary to update the data for
previous periods where there is a material change in the reported absence due to
a delay in recording. We understand that services are under high pressure, and
therefore data will be monitored closely. If necessary, publishing of staff absence
data may need to be amended or delayed.
In contrast to the data for adult care homes, stress-related absence due to
COVID-19 would be recorded as sick leave, and not included here.
From 22 July 2020, this data is provided on a weekly basis, rather than daily.

Notes:
Number of care homes with a current case refers to adult care homes only
The Care Inspectorate carried out a data review at the end of June due to concerns not all homes were
notifying when they no longer had suspect cases. This found that a substantial number of care homes
classified as having a current suspected case(s) had not notified the Care Inspectorate of a new
suspected case for at least 28 days. 28 days is twice the extreme incubation period for the virus and
considered the safest estimate of when a home could be declared free of COVID-19.
On this basis, from 29 June the Care Inspectorate has revised the definition of care homes with current
suspected case to exclude any home that has not notified of a new case of suspected COVID for at least
28 days.

Notes:
Local authorities have agreed to the sharing of their pupil attendance and
absence data on a daily basis. This information is received from SEEMiS (the
Management Information Software (MIS) provider used by all local authority
schools). All figures are provisional when first published. Figures will be revised
around a week after they were initially published to take on board any
changes/updates made by schools to the information they record on their
school computer system. The main table is being updated to account for these
revisions - revised figures are shaded grey - and the original provisional data
published is provided in the table to the right.
The number of children and young people who are absent due to Covid-related
reasons is based on counting any child or young person who is recorded as
being absent due to a Covid-related reason for all or part of the day (i.e. all day,
or for half a day). A Covid-related reason includes a positive test, showing
symptoms, self-isolation, quarantining, and parents not sending their child to
school against Public Health guidance.
Percentage attendance and absence relate to the total number of possible
attendances and not number of pupils. The number of possible half days
attendance will differ for each pupil enrolment, depending on the length of
time the pupil is on the roll of the school and the number of half day openings
the school operates. Most schools operate 10 half-day sessions a week (e.g.
morning and afternoon). However, some schools operate 9 longer half-day
sessions (e.g. there is no Friday afternoon opening). Therefore, the %
attendance and absence figures shown here are based on the % of half day
openings (not the % of pupils).

This data is published Monday to Friday two days after the day to which it
refers. For example, data for Mondays is published on Wednesdays, and so on.
Data for Thursday and Friday will be published on Monday and Tuesday
respectively.
Data will be affected by public and school holidays. For example, note that in
week beginning 12 October, 29 of the 32 local authority areas were on holiday

Table 11 - Cumulative vaccine doses allocated and delivered
Figures on doses allocated and delivered refer to one dose of vaccine, whereas a course o
vaccination is made up of two doses. This is the same for all types of vaccine.
The data on vaccination allocation and delivery is drawn from information provided by Pu
Health England (PHE). The data is collected from management information generated dur
the operation of the Vaccine Deployment Programme and collated centrally by Public Hea
England.
The data on vaccine supply is management information which is used to support COVID-1
vaccination operations. The data have not undergone the same level of quality assurance
official statistics, and are subject to future revisions.

This information is currently based on data obtained from Higher Education Institutions (Universities) and
should be treated as Management Information.
Universities collect this information for operational purposes and the Scottish Government requires this
information for monitoring outbreaks.
Management Information recording systems and protocols vary across the university sector and this data
is collected with extremely short turnaround. Published figures should therefore be treated as provisional
and may be revised retrospectively as new information is made available. Numbers are not directly
comparable with other data published by the Scottish Government or Public Health Scotland due to the
variations in collection and time periods covered.
The number of new cases covers the number of students who have had a new positive test result
recorded by universities in the previous 7 days. The number of cases is believed to have good coverage of
known positive cases among students in university maintained halls. However the total number of
students newly testing positive is potentially an undercount overall, as in general, it relies on students self-
reporting to the university if they do not live in university maintained halls.
The weekly number is rounded to the nearest 5, daily average to the nearest 1 and total number since the
start of term to 5. Numbers have been rounded to account for the precision of the aggregated figures.
Most university students currently have all of their teaching online or have ceased studies for the 2020-21
academic year. Face-to-face teaching has only continued for those where being physically present on
campus is vital to the learning. Numbers post-Winter break may be lower due to the lower numbers of
students on campus, however many students that have not returned may still report their positive test
results to their university. To date, we are not aware of any cases where contact tracing has identified
face-to-face teaching on campus as a source of transmission among students.
Not all universities submit returns every week, so figures may be revised in future publications to reflect
this.
College data Notes:
This information is currently based on data obtained from Scottish colleges and should be treated as
Management Information.
Colleges collect this information for operational purposes and the Scottish Government requires this
information for monitoring outbreaks.
Management Information recording systems and protocols vary across the college sector and this data is
collected with extremely short turnaround. Data may be collated from a number of different sources and
in some circumstances newly reported cases may include backdated cases, for example following a holiday
period in which colleges are often closed to students. Published figures should therefore be treated as
provisional and may be revised retrospectively as new information is made available. Numbers are not
directly comparable with other data published by the Scottish Government or Public Health Scotland due
to the variations in collection and time periods covered. The figures should also not be added to cases
reported in other sources due to the potential for double counting.
To further reduce the possibility of double counting, please note that published figures for the college
sector do not include any college students studying at Scotland’s Rural College or the University of the
Highlands and Islands, as due to reporting practices these are included in the university figures. However,
there may be a small number of students that are affiliated with both a university and college and so it is
not possible to ensure that there is no duplication in reporting between colleges and universities.
The number of new cases covers the number of students who have had a new positive test result
recorded by colleges in the previous 7 days. Only a small proportion of college students live in provider
maintained halls and indeed many colleges do not have such residences. As such, the number of students
newly testing positive is potentially an undercount overall, as in general, it relies on students self-reporting
to the college if they do not live in college maintained halls.
The weekly number is rounded to the nearest 5, daily average to the nearest 1 and total number since the
start of term to 5. Numbers have been rounded to account for the precision of the aggregated figures.
Most college students currently have all of their teaching online or have ceased studies for the 2020-21
academic year. Face-to-face teaching has only continued for those where being physically present on
campus is vital to the learning. Numbers post-Winter break may be lower due to the lower numbers of
students on campus, however many students that have not returned may still report their positive test
results to their college. To date, we are not aware of any cases where contact tracing has identified face-
to-face teaching on campus as a source of transmission among students.

The data in Table 10c are extracted from the Vaccination Management Tool at 8:30 am on the
date reported. This is based on management information and is subject to change on any given
day.
The estimated population is based on the latest mid-2019 population estimates (MYE) published
by National Records of Scotland. We know that the number of people in each group may have
changed since then but the MYE are the latest official estimate of the population.
From Friday 26 February 2021, Public Health Scotland (PHS) launched a new section on
their COVID-19 dashboard which provides daily vaccinations data including by age group:
