Pressure and Calibration Kit

An educational kit for teaching electronics,
pressure and calibration concepts. After
soldering and calibration the LED
pressure gauge can be used for activities
and experiments.

Soldering Safety
Soldering may be dangerous if you do not use the right
methods, therefore, follow these safety rules:
• Always wear safety glasses when soldering. The solder (the material heated with the iron) gets
very hot. Occasionally an air pocket may form and pop as the solder is heated; sending bits of
hot solder flying (beware of skin, clothing, eyes, and work surfaces).

• Never solder a live circuit (one that is energized).

• Solder in a well-ventilated space to prevent the mildly caustic and toxic fumes from building up
and causing eye or throat irritation.

• Always put the soldering iron back in its stand when not in use. Be sure the stand is weighted or
is attached to the worktable so that it doesn’t topple over if someone brushes against the cord.

• To avoid the possibility of a fire, never place a hot soldering iron on the work surface.

• Never try to catch a hot soldering iron if it falls. Let it fall, then buy a new one if it breaks — just
do not grab it!

• Give any soldered surface a minute to cool before touching it.

• Never leave flammable items (such as paper or clothing) near the soldering iron.

• Be sure to unplug the soldering iron when finished. Never leave a hot soldering iron unattended

Calibration

Calibration
1. Calibrate using a gauge or
water manometer
2. Youtube video

*A blood pressure cuff with a plastic T

connection is shown in image.
Calibration
1. Calibrate using gauge or a water manometer.

2. To set the initial pressure to 0, make sure the manometer water level is
the same height as the pressure guage.

3. Adjust the lower potentiometer (RTRIM1) left and right until the first red
LED barely comes on.

4. Set the water manometer to the maximum height, the maximum pressure
you would like to measure.
5. Adjust the the upper range (RTRIM2) left and right until all of the LEDs are
just barely on.

6. Lower the water manometer again to make sure the initial pressure of 0
was maintained. You can repeat steps 2-5 again if you need a more acurate
0 on your guage.

7. Next, slowly raise the Manometer, and as each LED comes make a note
of the height (pressure).

8. Using this information, label your pressure gauge with the Pressure.
