The specter of a fresh wave of Covid-19 loomed over the country on Thursday March 11, as the
Epidemic Weekly Report 5
number of people reported to have contracted the potentially fatal disease in a day topped the
figure of 2,000 after a gap of about a month, with half of those infected belonging to Punjab. The
country’s most populous province seemed to be in the eye of the brewing storm not just because
of the high number of people infected but also due to the presence there of a rather dangerous
strain of the virus.
As the virus resurging again in the country the NCOC has again taken steps and close down all
educational across the federal capital and in province Punjab followed by KP for a period of two
weeks from March 15. The provincial governments took the step as the positivity rate in the
provinces has been increased. The Commissioner Islamabad had also issued a notification sited
restricting activities to prevent further spread of the virus. The notification issued by the deputy
commissioner said 50pc work from home policy would be implemented in the capital with
immediate effect and time limit of 10pm for all commercial activities had been reinforced with
immediate effect except for essential services like pharmacies, groceries and bakeries. All
amusement parks in the capital will close at 6pm and the decision of allowing indoor weddings,
indoor dining and opening of cinemas and shrines with effect from March 15 had been
withdrawn.
