Tamástslikt Cultural Institute

During 2013, the Tamástslikt facility staff has made solid progress toward their goal of counting
73 tons of carbon savings.  From 2003 to 2013, they successfully reduced electrical usage by
55% and natural gas usage by 75%.   Their dream is a net-zero balance between energy
demands and energy costs. Located on the Umatilla Indian Reservation near Pendleton in
eastern Oregon Tamástslikt Cultural Institute are a museum and research institute. It is the
only Native American museum along the Oregon Trail. The institute is dedicated to the culture
of the Cayuse, Umatilla, and Walla Walla tribes of Native Americans. The final exhibit highlights
the dreams and concerns of its tribal community in a moving exhibit called “We Will Be.”
Tamástslikt has offered a series of certifiable training for other tribal plant personnel to spread
the benefits of being knowledgeable about energy.

Confederated Tribes of the Umatilla Indian Reservation

Apart from information about history, government, justice, economy, culture and religion,
revitalization of language and notable members I come across this piece of information about
Gaming Commission which I found interesting:

 The five-member Gaming Commission's purpose is

 to ensure the honesty and integrity of Class II and Class III gaming conducted within the
Umatilla Indian Reservation;
 license all employees and gaming contractors of the gaming operation as required by
the Gaming Code;
 promulgate and enforce regulations that fully carry out the duties and powers delegated
to the Commission by the Board of Trustees;
 ensure that the gaming operation remains in compliance with the Gaming Code, the
Indian Gaming Regulatory Act and the Compact between the Tribes and the State of Oregon;
 investigate any and all violations of the Gaming Code, the Indian Gaming Regulatory Act
and the Compact to protect the honesty and integrity of the gaming operation and to ensure
compliance with applicable law; and
 to ensure the safe handling of assets of the gaming operation .
