Not everyone thinks new or different is better. In fact, a lot of

people think the opposite. The United States is known for its variety
of architecture from office buildings to train stations, government
buildings to public restrooms. Many are viewed as beautiful but others
are seen as extremely ugly. Which buildings are hated? Which ones are
just badly designed? Which ones should be destroyed? Let’s take a
Look.

A) The Boston City Hall in Boston, Massachusetts, was built in 1962

and ¡s considered one of the ugliest buildings in a city that is
normally praised for its attractive historic buildings. This type of
architecture is known for its concrete and geometric shapes. Should it
be torn down? City officials have talked about it, but then joke that
it’s really seen as another tourist attraction. Don’t Lots of people

B) The Experience Music Project in Seattle, Washington, was designed

by the famous Canadian-born American architect. Frank Gehry. Gehry’s
buildings have been recognized alt over the world for their unique
design. His Guggenheim Museum Bilbao in Spain was built in 1997 and
was called a “masterpiece of the 20th century” by The New Yorker
magazine. The EMP. as it is known, however, has not won the same
praise. “He got t wrong,” says one critic. Gehry said the design was
inspired by electric guitars, but many don’t see the connection,
calling it a “blob” instead.

C) A lot of people were shocked to see a large brown shopping basket

appear in the suburbs of Ohio. A smaller version of the basket, also
known as the Longaberger Medium Market basket, was collected by
customers across the Midwest in the US. But the building was made 160
times the size of the original and can be seen for miles. It was
decided by the owner of the company, Dave Longaberger, that the basket
should be the model for all of the company’s buildings, but after his
death, the idea was quickly voted down.

D) In 1991, the world’s Largest Library was opened in Chicago. It was

named after the city’s late mayor, Harold Washington, but many have
said that the building is more of an eyesore* than a symbol of respect
for him. It is criticized for its mixture of styles, designs, and
colors, and some have even gone as far as to say that it resembles
more of a shopping mall rather than a library. In 2009, it was
selected as one of the 15 ugliest buildings in the world by
Travel+Leisure.

All of these buildings are still standing. They haven’t been torn down
and are admired by some, hated by others. Some people feel that action
should be taken against these ugly buildings. If it’s an eyesore, it
should be demolished or redone. But that’s a matter of opinion, isn’t
it?

I think all of them are interesting but the Experience Music Project is teh worst.
I think that the ugliest is the building in photo 4 that doesn't look like anything, the best I think
is the building in photo 1 and the worst I think is the building in photo 2.
