CASE STUDY 1: MISLEADING FOR GOOD PURPOSE
Inspector Butt is instructed by his DSP Mr.Sando to hire some laborers and
destroy the parts of police station that are not damaged by cyclone to ask for
more relief fund by lying to the Government’s disaster assessment team.

From my perspective, Inspector Butt should not follow the orders of his DSP. This
is due to the following reasons:

a) If the inspector does so, he will be able to persuade the team and they will
get more of the relief fund which actually should be granted to poor and
needy people. In this way, the real deserving people will be deprived of the
fund. In my view, government sets aside certain amount of money for such
relief funds, so if the police station gets more money, needy people will
automatically get less of it.

b) If they have the money to hire laborers, they should rather spend that
money to repair the police station instead of destroying it.

c) The inspector should not be afraid of losing his job by not obeying the DSP’s
orders because one should be loyal to his duties towards his country,
betterment of one’s country and his people should be the foremost priority
for everyone. He should be loyal to his oath which he must have taken at
the time of joining police. He is given the duty of taking care of his people,
not to obey unethical orders of his officials.

CASE STUDY 2: A JOB APPLICATION

Keeping in view the greater good for greater number of people (UTILITARIANISM),
I will suggest him to lie and swear in the application that he has never taken
drugs. This is because he does not take these drugs anymore and his needs are so
much higher. He will get the job this way and all of his problems will get solved.
I will also advice him to keep looking for other jobs as well which will help him get
a good life, although his lie will not harm the company in my opinion but if (in any
case) it does so, then he should be having some other option for earning. Or if
after joining the company, he comes to know that his lie is affecting people or the
company then he should quit the job himself afterwards and find some other job.
