Tomás: Good afternoon. I need a ticket to Brussels, please. Which train must I take?
Booking-clerk: It’s 58 pounds return, for the standard ticket. If you travel business, it’s 169 pounds return.
Booking-clerk: Fine. (Typing on the computer) If you want to have your luggage registered,
you should do it before 7:00 and put it in the luggage van. Your small suitcases can go in the carriage.
Tomás: May I have a corner seat facing the engine, near the restaurant carriage?
Booking-clerk: I’ll do my best. ...Ok. Here you are, sir. Coach D, seat number 17. Just next to the dining-car.
Booking-clerk: Fine. Sign here, please. Your receipt, sir. A porter will help you to put your stuff in the luggage van.
Booking-clerk: Platform 6. Thank you for choosing Eurostar. I hope you find the journey comfortable.

Tomás is calling a car rental agency to hire a car for his trip to Brussels.
Clerk: Good morning, “Fast Cars” Rental. How can I help you?
Tomás: I’m arriving at Brussels Midi Station. Do you have a booth there?
Clerk: Yes, we do. We’ve got two pick-up points there: one at the airport and one at the train station. What date are you travelling on?

Clerk: What is your arrival time?
Tomás: I
will need it
for 5 days.
Clerk: It’s 22 pounds per day. The compact car is 18 pounds per day.
Clerk: It’s 10 pounds per day and it covers everything regardless of fault.
Clerk: Great. Thank you. I have reserved the compact car from Mr. Tomás Lara for August 23rd until 28th. Now, if you could just fax me a copy of your driving
license, please.

The situation
Tomás has received an e-mail from Mr Powell. Read the email and fill in the car rental form.
Hi Tomás,
I´ll need to hire a car while I’m in Prague next week. Please arrange for me to pick it up at Vaclav Havel Prague Airport on
12th October. I´ll drop it off at the airport too. I’m travelling on my own, so a compact class car will do.
My arrival time is 12:15. Please book the car for 12:45. I’ll need the car for three days. My return flight is at 18.40 on 14th
October. I’ll drop the car off at about 16:00. I wouldn’t like a manual car this time, try to rent an automatic car with GPS.
I’ll use my credit card.
Thanks,
Tania Caruso. Praga (CC BY-NC)
