PCA-Choosing an Organization Worksheet

Worksheet Objectives:
1. Identify an organization and situation you want to study over the remainder of the course.
2. Describe the organization and the situation

Complete the following making sure to support your ideas and cite from the textbook and other
course materials per APA guidelines. After the peer review, you have a chance to update this and
format for your Electronic Portfolio due in Module 6.

1) Name and describe your organization.

Art One Gallery, Inc. is a student and local artist gallery in the Old Town Scottsdale Arts
District in Arizona. The gallery opened in 1993 with a mission to provide space for
up-and-coming artists to display, sell, and market their artistic creations. The gallery
pushes to represent high school students, who receive 100% of the proceeds from their
sales. Our college and local artists follow a traditional gallery consignment agreement
split of 50% (how the gallery makes its money). All inventory brought into the gallery is
organized and updated daily on the gallery’s website, arranged by artist and date of
arrival. The gallery has reached thousands of people over the years and continues to
inspire new and returning clients to continue supporting its mission and values.

Describe your role in the organization (it can be an internal or external role).

Currently, I am the manager of Art One Gallery, Inc. I started working for the gallery
when I was just 14 and wanted a summer internship to earn some money for a cell phone.
I had no intention of remaining at the gallery 14 years later and potentially taking over
the business interierly, but here we are. This internal role puts a good deal of pressure on
my shoulders to ensure I am able to pay the bills, our employees, and effectively lead
others in the direction towards success. I take the gallery very seriously and want it to
succeed for many years to come.

2) Describe the situation, including information you think will help the reader
understand the most important elements of the situation. (This will require
selectivity: part of the art of case writing is separating the essential facts from the
mass of information that might be included).

The situation I would like to study throughout this semester is Art One Gallery’s ability
to survive the trying times during the pandemic. Almost as soon as COVID-19 became a

1
reality, the gallery instantly felt the effects of lack of foot traffic and interest in art.
Throughout this process, the gallery did everything in their power to keep its clients in
the loop of new inventory as it was still arriving. Additionally, the gallery created a video
series in which the employees would interview actively producing artists. These efforts
were to encourage continued support of the organization and to show clients the gallery
had no intention of closing. The gallery also applied for governmental assistance due to a
drop off of sales, which most definitely saved the business.

As this gallery encourages young artists to show their work, they don’t necessarily make
any money from them. This puts a lot of pressure to find local and college artists who can
help sustain the gallery’s profits. While there may not be much money to be made as a
gallery owner of this nature, the value of spreading art throughout local communities is
culturally essential in supporting creativity and individuality.
