TASK – APPLICATIONS AND OS

1. Choose an example of the following types of application software that are installed on your computer or
from the Internet. Each of the applications you choose must be developed by different software
companies. For each type of software you must do the following:
a. Take a screenshot of its main interface,
b. Label the screenshot with at least 3 of the following (cover all of them overall):
i. Toolbar
ii. Menus
iii. Dialogue boxes
iv. GUI components (use different one e.g. button, scrollbars etc)
c. Write one or two sentences describing what the software is and the features it provides.
d. Write another sentence to explain three different situations where you may use this software.

The software you must write about includes:

a. Word processors
b. Spreadsheets
c. Database Management Systems (DBMSs)
d. Email clients
e. Web Browsers
f. Computer Aided Design
g. Graphics Processing Software

2. Describe the main functions of an operating system. This does not need to be an in-depth description.
You should just include the basic of how a single-user operating system would work. You should provide
the following:
a. A two or three sentence description of the feature, and
b. A diagram explaining the feature. Your written description must refer to the feature.

You should do this for each of the following features:

i. Provides a user interface
ii. Does Memory Management
iii. Does Peripheral Management
iv. Allow Multi-tasking
v. Provides Security

Include your citations using any professional format.
