Installing Holter v2.9.1 Software
NOTE After successful installation of the software, you can use the Windows Start button to access all
installed applications, release notes, documentation, and online help.
System Requirements
The Holter software requires the following minimum system configuration. For optimal
performance, refer to the recommended system requirements listed below.
CAUTION When Philips Holter software is installed, the system is checked to see that it meets minimum
requirements for processing Holter data accurately. If the system does not meet requirements, the
following message is displayed each time Holter is run:
This computer does not meet the requirements to run Holter. Analyzed data may not be
accurate.
CAUTION The new Philips DigiTrak XT recorder allows for multi day scans, up to 168 hours (7 days). While a
system meeting the minimum requirements can handle a scan of this length, performance is severely
impacted. If you intend to process multi day scans, we strongly recommend using a higher
performance system, with faster processor, more memory, and a larger hard drive; for example:
Enabled the ability to run the Holter application, including downloading data from the
new DigiTrak XT recorder, under a user-level (non-administrator) account. This enables
your site to prevent users from modifying applications or other operating system files,
thereby enhancing the security of your Holter system.
Previous versions of Holter, and the current version of Holter when downloading data
from a DigiTrak Plus recorder, require the use of an administrator-level account. On these
systems, we recommend limiting the amount of data exposed to the user, as well as the
number and type of applications on the system.
Added the ability to encrypt PDF files and require a password to unlock the file. While
encryption is not required, we recommend that you encrypt and password protect PDF
reports prior to emailing them.
Added soft encryption to the patient data on the DigiTrak XT recorder.
Security Recommendations
To further strengthen the security and confidentiality of your patient records and system in
general, we recommend that you implement additional safety measures, including:
– Remind your patients that the recorder contains confidential patient data and they
should safeguard the recorder while it is in their possession.
– Store the recorders in a secure location when not in use.
– Implement “best practices” Windows security measures to minimize unauthorized
system access. These measures include short screen saver intervals, short auto logout
intervals when the system is idle, and training your users to lock the desktop when
they leave the computer.
– Use a privacy filter on the Holter system monitor that shields the visibility of the
screen contents from angled viewing.
– Install virus protection software, such as Norton AntiVirus or McAfee VirusScan.
– Visit the Philips security website at http://www.medical.philips.com/main/productsecurity
for the latest security updates from Philips Medical Systems.
CAUTION Connect the docking station after installing the Holter software as described in “Installing the Holter
2.9.1 Software” on page 6. Never dock a recorder while software installation is in progress.
CAUTION Do not disconnect the recorder whenever the Preloading message is flashing. To cancel the
preloading sequence, double-click the Preloading message and select Abort.
If you accidentally unplug the recorder during a preload sequence, restart the system to clear the
DigiTrak XT device. If the recorder is unplugged prematurely, the ECG is corrupted.
CAUTION Do not insert the recorder at a high angle or with the pins facing out. Inserting the recorder from a
high angle will result in bent pins.
Ensure the docking station is connected to the Holter computer before proceeding.
CAUTION Do not force the recorder into the dual dock. If it does not easily snap into place, remove the
recorder and try installing it again.
The operating system detects that new hardware is connected, and automatically
configures the appropriate device driver.
USB connected appears on the recorder display and the Preloading message appears in the
bottom right of the Holter application window (if there is data on the recorder). The dual
dock is now operational.
3 Gently push down on the product label. The recorder snaps into place.

Exporting to HL7
HL7 is an ANSI standard for the exchange of health care-specific data computer applications.
The name comes from “Health Level 7,” which refers to the top layer (Level 7) of the Open
Systems Interconnection (OSI) layer protocol for the health environment.
This guide assumes you are familiar with the HL7 protocol. There are many resources on the
World Wide Web that provide detailed information about HL7, the standards, components of a
message and the like.
Holter’s HL7 interface provides you with one-way standard HL7 text result output and an
optional pointer to a PDF version of the report. You can also customize the configuration file
(HL7.ini). If you choose the PDF option, exporting to HL7 generates a PDF file and includes a
pointer to that PDF file in the HL7 text result.
For details on the configuration file, HL7.ini, see “About the HL7.ini Configuration File,”
below.
HL7 export is supported in Holter, Remote Link, and the Report Viewer applications.
NOTE The HL7 export functionality requires a hardlock on the main Holter PC.
1. Collect Information
Decide on the delimiters you are using for HL7, the version, and how to configure
communication between your HIS (or other system that will use the HL7 results) and the
Holter HL7 files. You can customize the HL7 configuration file with your own delimiters.
Determine whether a link to a PDF file will be included with the HL7 output. Determine the
export paths for the HL7 and if applicable, PDF output.
; P=Production, D=Debug
ProcessingID=P
; HL7 delimiters
Delimiters=|^~\&
; If this path is present a PDF will also be exported and placed in this folder. If empty,
; no PDF is exported when HL7 message is created.
PDFPath=C:\Program Files\Holter\Temp\PDF
; The path to the PDF as written into the HL7 file, can be UNC or URL format. PDF file title
; is appended directly, so be sure to include any trailing slashes or backslashes.
; Not used if PDFPath is empty.
PDFLink=\\servername\sharename\
; The resolution of waveform data in samples-per-inch. Higher values indicate higher quality
; but may dramatically increase PDF file size. Best=300, High=200, Normal=100, Draft=75
PDFWaveformQuality=200
; If any files are found in HL7Path or PDFPath this many days or older, they will deleted.
; A value of zero disables directory cleaning.
RemoveOld=45
The exported HL7 file name is in the form:
zh_patientID[hookupTime]patientName.hl7
Note that all file names begin with zh_. For example, the following file name shows patient ID
004, hookup time Aug 18, 2007 12:00 pm, and patient name, John Q Smith.
zh_004[200708181200]John_Q_Smith.hl7
The HL7.ini configuration file defines the following export parameters:
Exporting to TraceMasterVue
With the Holter 2.9.1 Multimodality option, you can now export PDFs for import into the
Philips TraceMasterVue ECG Management System (version C.01 and later) for storage and
archiving. In TraceMasterVue, you can review the PDF report, as well as store it in the
database. You cannot, however, edit the imported PDF file. For details about working with the
imported PDF report, refer to the TraceMasterVue documentation. For details on Holter
models and options, see the Philips Holter Instructions for Use.
Holter exports an enhanced PDF file for import into TraceMasterVue. For details about the
information embedded in the PDF file, see the Philips Holter Instructions for Use.
