Music, Art, Physical Education (MAPs) 
 
Band 
 
Instrumental Musicians should practice from their assigned method books for 180 total minutes per 
week (i.e. 30 minutes per day/6 days per week) for grades 7-8, or 100 total minutes (20 minutes per 
day/5 days per week) for 4th through 6th grades. Parents should document the practice time by 
signing the weekly Practice Logs located on the first or last page of student method books, or any 
suitable calendar. 
 
General Music 
 
● Sing your favorite song out loud using different voice levels. 
● Make an instrument with materials from home. 
● Write a song using your family members’ names, or items you find in your home. 
● Make a list of your top ten Disney songs, and then sing them to your family.  
● Read a book about a musician. 
 
Art 
 
● Draw your favorite animal. 
● Draw your bedroom, then cut and paste magazines and newspaper pieces to create a 
collage. 
● Look in a mirror and draw a self-portrait. Be sure to include all features; hairstyle, jewelry, and 
clothing. 
● Look up an artist of your choice online and see how they created their portraits. Try to create a 
portrait in their style. Some examples of artists are Pablo Picasso, Vincent Van Gogh, Mary 
Cassat. 
● Make a color wheel with examples from your yard or inside your home. See how many 
different examples of each color you find. 
● Create a paintbrush with items from your yard or home.
