A distress call

__________________________, this Sword Frigate has been


at your command for over fifty years and shows every decade
of it. It has been both your home, a safe haven to heal from
wounds and retell your war stories as much as it has been the
tip of your spear, cutting down enemy craft to deliver its deadly
cargo, the warriors of the Vlka Fenryka, the rout, the Space
Wolves sons of Leman Russ, your pack-mates, your family.

The walls are lined with furs from long


vanquished beasts and trophies of a
hundred battles. Talismans for safeguarding
and trinkets for friends lost and welcomed,
the craft has a life of its own now. As a Wolf
Lord you have devoted your life to fighting
the enemies of the Allfather, the emperor of
mankind, but the light of holy Terra is faint
this far to the north of the galaxy, well near
the fringes of Segmentum Obscurus.

The pale green haze of the pict-unit renders your quarters in monochromatic hues as you
play the recording once more. The ghostly image of Lukas Strifeson stares back at you as you
parse and memorize the information, quickly summarizing the info as a battle-doctrine briefing:
Lukas had been reportedly pursuing his “ultimate prey” on the ruined sanctuary planet Prius-III
at the fringes of Segmentum Obscurus. He pleads for help, invoking the name of the Allfather
and claiming that any wolf-brothers who assist him will share their glory of this “ultimate hunt”.
You recall your previous encounters with Lukas, also known as the Trickster, and you are
fully aware that his antics must be taken with care, but you trust that despite his greatest desire
being to work his unparalleled mischief upon whomever he fancies, at heart he is a fierce
warrior of the Rout and will kill as many of its foes as he can along the way. You can also not
ignore the encoded signals worked on his message: augurs aboard your ship have determined
a spike in xenos raids on nearby planets, all converging to this same place. A hidden threat has
rooted itself in this system, the presence of the fool cannot be a coincidence, but you decide
that his aid could be beneficial.
The blaring claxons signal the end of warp-transit, it’ll be a
matter of minutes now until you re-enter realspace near the orbit
of the planet. You fear no warp-spawn but the knowledge that
you will be out of the Immaterium soon instinctively makes you
reach for your warding runes. You chuckle as you remember
carving them back in Fenris, before your transformation into
Astartes. Most of that life has been forgotten, your human life, a
simpler life. The only concerns then were the tracking of prey
and the fighting of beasts, most of your responsibility was to
yourself and the few village hunters you have long forgotten the
names of... you now have your own company to command, and
a frigate to travel the stars with. The lives of not only your
hundreds of battle brothers, but of every serf and menial grub
worker on the bowels of the vessel depended on your cunning
decisions, and despite it being your duty, following the trail of the
Trickster left a bitter taste on your mouth that no amount of
Mjold could drown.

50, leftover points will be used in the future)

● You cannot choose more than 2 of each Elite, Fast Attack or Heavy Support options

● This is your initial army, and will grow as you advance through this campaign

succumbed to the wulfen curse, they fight on to
redeem their honour, and we offer them our
protection, for they are still from our pack, despite
knowing that the imperium and their inquisitors would
brand us heretics if they are discovered

You hurry down the corridors towards the command dais atop the control room. The high
arched ceiling of it resembles one of the great halls of Fenris, your banner hangs from either
side of the ceilings, showing your bold insignia.

At the center of the banner is the insignia, that


symbolizes your company greatest aspect:

Your staff of serfs tenses as you walk into the command dais, despite all these years of
service the sheer physical ferocity of a space wolf shills the hearts of even the most brutal of
men. The ship’s captain greets you and gives you the briefing. The planet in question is an old
shrine world that had been the target of drukhari raiding for centuries. During the past 500 years
it has been the target of fierce opposition from both the astra militarum and the adepta sororitas
until the great rift opened and warp storms destroyed the entire crusading armies, leaving the
word to fend for itself in the imperium nihilus, now cut off from the light of the astronomican on
holy Terra by the cicatrix maledictum. The Adeptus Administratum has declared the world a
dead world. “But still, my lord – says the captain looking up from the tactical read-outs – there
should at least be some signal of activity down there, survivors or even dormant mechanicum
machinery should still emit electro-magnetic disturbances or trace amounts of radiation, our
sensors read zero activity on the planet surface. We can’t even detect wind currents or oceanic
tides, it is as if the planet is truly dead, and that is an impossibility. There is either some strange
warp-related phenomena on the planet atmosphere or it is as if something, or someone, is
deliberately obscuring the planet from us”
After careful consideration and analysis, you have come up with two potential drop sites
for your forces, you only have time for one operation before anything on the surface has a
chance of detecting your frigate and responds in force.

“What will your orders be, lord?”

● Sweep and Clear - Send in a combat patrol force to the heart of the old government
capital district on the largest ruined city, if anything of malicious intent is on that planet,
the enemy cannot ignore the vantage location of the ruined capital and your forces are
sure to uncover some information about what is going on.

● Supply Drop - Send in your forces on the ruins of the military spaceport on the
mountainous region near the old capital. This ancient location can likely be salvaged or
reactivated and may provide the tools to scout the planet surface for clues of Lukas'
location.
