QUICK REFERENCE 
 
Use the following information as a quick guide to the functions of the Indigo One unit: 
 
Alert Mode 
• Depress MNU and SND simultaneously to put the Indigo One into “Alert Mode”. 
• Depress  MNU  and  SND  simultaneously,  to  take  the  Indigo  One  out  of  “Alert 
Mode”. 
 
Send a Message 
• Press the MSG button 
• Use the selector to navigate to your selected message (use “TEXT MESSAGE” to 
enter custom text only) 
• Add your custom text by rotating the selector through the cycle of characters to 
the  required  one,  then  clicking  in  to  move  to  the  next  space  and  repeating  the 
process. 
• Press the SND button to send the message 
• The message will move  from the “OUT” menu to “SENT” once the message has 
been transmitted 
 
Correct your Message 
 
• To  make  a  correction  to  text  you  have  already  entered,  click  the  Selector  and 
hold  it  in,  until  the  character  is  deleted,  and  proceed  with  the  Selector  to 
continue with your custom message. 
 
Read a New Message 
• When a new message arrives, Use the selector to navigate to “Message Status”. 
Click the selector in to navigate to the “IN<1>”  
Press the SND button to read the message 
Read a Previous Message 
• Press the MNU button 
• Use the selector to navigate to “Message Status”. Click the selector in. 
• Navigate to “IN” by clicking the selector in. 
• Press the SND button 
• Navigate  by  scrolling  the  Selector  to  the  left  or  right  to  view  the  message/s  in 
the Inbox. 
 
Change the Backlighting Level 
• Press the MNU button 
• Navigate to the “Configuration” menu. Click the selector in, this will allow you to 
navigate  between  the  “INTERNAL”  and  “EXTERNAL”  Backlight  by  rotating  the 
selector. 
• If you are on the “INTERNAL”, click in the selector TWO times, in order to adjust 
the lighting level by rotating the selector.

The  Indigo  Onee  Satellite  Tracking 
T andd  Communiication  Systeem  has  man ny  features  and 
benefits  for  thee  aircrew  op perating  ann  aircraft  fittted  with  the  unit.  Thiss  document  will 
assist you to un nderstand those functio ons, how to o access them m, and how w to get the  best 
out of the Indiggo One fitted d to your airccraft.

VERVIEW  
 
The  Indigo  Onee  unit  is  exttremely  sim
mple  to  operate,  and  thee  following  illustration  will 
introduce you tto the variou us parts of th

Backklit Display 
All iinformation will be disp played on th he blue backlit LCD screeen of the Ind digo One. 
 
Function Button ns 
The four functio on buttons aare used to aaccess the In ndigo One fu unction men nu, and perfform 
variious actions. Their functtion is mosttly dependen nt on the coontext of thee backlit disp play, 
but the followin ng are the sttandard funcctions: 
 
MNU:  Jump  to  th he  top  of  th
he  menu,  an nd  use  the  selector  knnob  to  navigate 
between  the  “OPER RATION”,  “CONFIGUR RATION”  and  “SYST TEM 
INFORMATION” menuss 
PLT:  Shortcut to the “Pilot PIN” function n 
MSG:  Shortcut to  the “Send M Message” function (thiss shortcut do oes not worrk in 
the Configu uration menu u) 
SND:  No standard d function 
 
Seleector Knob 
The  selector  kn nob  is  the  principle  to
ool  of  naviggation  and  selection

The Indigo Onee has an Alerrt function tthat is the ffirst functionn that you should be aw ware 
When activaated, it has th

• sends a priority “AL LERT” message via the ssatellite 
• acceleraates the freq quency of po osition messsages to report every 30 0 seconds 
• notifies  selected  peeople  by  emmail  and/or  SMS  to  theiir  mobile  ph
hone  (this  must

be setup p in the IndiigoTrack sofftware undeer “Notification Mainten nance” 
• Notifiess the “Alert SStandby” teaam in the IndigoSat opeerations room m 
 
In order to activvate this function, push tthe “MNU” and “SND” bu uttons simultaneously. 
 
Wheen in “Alert”” mode, the Indigo One display will flash the message “A L E R T”. 
 
In order to deacctivate this fu

messsage requesting identification willl be display yed as soon  as the self‐diagnostic ttests 
are completed.

clickk SND to com mplete. There is no validation of th his informatiion, and its o omission haas no 
effect on the fu unctioning of the Indigo o One unit. S Should you n not enter th he identificaation 
with hin 1 minute; the system m will reverrt to the Meessage Statu us display in n the Operattions 
Men nu.

Customizing a  Message 
You u  can  edit  text  in  the  Indigo 
I One  to  customiize  a  standard  messagge  by  usingg  the 
Seleector  Knob.  Rotating  th he  knob  willl  cycle  thro
ough  a  seriees  of  letterss,  numbers  and 
charracters, and d clicking it  in will selecct the curreent character, and progrress to the  next 
posiition in the ttext messagge. 
 
To p put a space  between wo ords, choosee the blank  (space) chaaracter (thiss is between n the 
charracters  “z”  and 
a “0”),  th hen  Click  the  Selector  to 
t use  the  “space” 
“ charracter.  This  will 
appear as a  flasshing block  “„”, to a flaashing blank k character “_”. You can n then rotatee the 
seleector to mov ve the cursorr to the startt of the nextt word. 
 
To m make a corrrection to teext you havee already en ntered, click  the Selector and hold iit in, 
untiil  the  charaacter  is  deleeted,  and  proceed 
p with
h  the  Selector  to  conttinue  with  your

Mosst  of  the  screens  availaable  under  this  menu  item  are  advisory;  ho owever  you  can 
channge the conffiguration of the Indigo One as follo ows: 
 
BACCKLIGHTING G 
There  are  two  options  forr  the  backligghting  contrrol,  either  Internal  or  E External.  Unnder 
Exteernal contro ol, the Indigo o One backlighting will  be controlled by the in nstrument panel 
lighting level seelected in th he cockpit. To override tthe instrumeent panel ligghting level, you 
can  change  thee  unit  to  Intternal  control,  where  you  y can  adju ust  the  lightting  level  off  the 
Indiigo One unitt only. You ccan make theese changess as follows:
• Press th he MNU buttton 
• Navigatte to the “Co onfiguration” menu. Clicck the selecttor in, this w will allow yoou to 
navigatee between tthe “INTERN NAL” and “EX XTERNAL” B Backlight ussing the Seleector 
scroll. 
• If  you  are 
a in  the  “INTERNAL”
“ ”,  click  in  th
he  selector  TWICE,  to  navigate  to o  the 
lightingg level, and rrotate the seelector to change the backlighting leevel. 
 
AUDDIO NOTIFY Y 
The  Indigo  Onee  unit  has  been 
b conneccted  to  the  audio  chann nel  in  the  aaircraft,  and  can 
notiify you of thhe arrival of  a message,  or the occurrrence of an n event, by ssounding a b beep 
thro
ough the aud dio channel..  
• To  Enab ble  or  Disabble  this  featture,  the  op perator  must  configure  the  Indigo  One 
unit on  IndigoTrack, and updaate the unit’s configurattion file, eith her via Sateellite 
or USB cconfiguratio on

REA AL‐TIME TRA ACKING (if p permitted)
Youu can changee the reportting intervall of the Indiggo One unitt or disable ttracking on  this 
men nu (provided that perm mission has  been granteed when thee unit was  cconfigured).. If a 
curssor is availab ble on this sscreen, you ccan change tthe options as follows: 
• To  chan nge  the  reporting  interrval,  position  the  curso or  under  thee  interval  value 
v
and  clicck  the  seleector  knob.  Rotating  th he  knob  will  now  alteer  the  posiition 
reportinng  interval  (note  minim mum  of  1  min 
m and  maxximum  of  30 0  min  interv
val). 
Click the selector to o save the ch hange. 
• To  diisable  reaal‐time  tracking,  position  th he  cursorr  under  the 
ENABLE ED/DISABLE ED item, and d click the selector to allternate betw ween the tw wo. 
 
Pleaase note that for both off these itemss, every timee the interva al is configuured, or traccking 
enab bled/disableed,  a  messag ge  is  sent  frrom  the  unitt  to  notify  the 
t operations  center  off  the 
chan nge in configguration. 
 
RESSET TO FACT TORY SETTIINGS (if perm mitted) 
Youu  can  reset  the 
t Indigo  One  unit  to o  the  initial  settings  co onfigured  inn  the  factoryy  by 
seleecting  this  option.  Clicck  the  selecctor  and  ro otate  until  the  messagge  reads:  “YES, 
CHA ANGE TO FA ACTORY SET TTINGS”. Cliccking the selector on this item will reset the Indigo 
Onee  unit,  and  send 
s a  messsage  to  the  operations  center  to  no otify  them  o
of  the  chang
ge  in 
conffiguration.

UPGRADING
G THE IN
NDIGO ON
NE 
 
From m  time  to  tiime,  IndigoSSat  may  release  a  new  version  of  the  softwarre  that  operrates 
insidde the Indiggo One unit  (known as  the “firmwaare”). A new w version w will typically  add 
morre functionaality to the u unit, and it iis our stronng recommendation thaat these upd dates 
are performed aas soon as p possible.  
 
In oorder to perfform the up pgrade, you w will need a  USB memorry stick (min nimum capaacity 
64M Mb), formattted in FAT16 6 mode, and d a PC with aan internet  connection,, USB capabiility, 
and  the latest v version of th he IndigoTrrack softwarre installed.  You may allso upgradee the 
mware by em
firm mailing it to  a remote lo ocation for uupgrade. A single memo ory stick maay be 
used d to upgradee a number of units. 
 
Local Upgrade e 
Thiss is where th he PC being used to preepare the US SB stick and the aircraft are in the same 
locaation: 
 
Stepp 1:  Prep pare  the  USB

Thiss is where th he PC beingg used to preepare the USB stick and d the aircraft are not in n the 
samme location: 
 
Adm ministrator: 
Stepp 1:  Prep pare  the  USB U stick  using  the  IndigoTracck  software,  as  per  the 
insttructions in tthe IndigoTrack Admin nistrator’s Gu uide. 
Stepp 2:  Thee preparation will createe two files o on the USB,  named “IND DIGO1.CFG”  and 
“INDDIGO1.ACT””.  Email  these  two  filess  to  the  enggineer/pilott  at  the  rem mote 
locaation.  
 
*Note: the USB  stick must b be formatteed in FAT16  mode on bo oth the Adm ministrators  and 
Enggineer/Pilot ends.
