Type of sampling Students of the educational institution in Cartagena from grades ninth and

Ethical Aspects Resolution 008430 of 1993 was taken into account, which served as an
ethical guide for the conduct of this study, considered safe because the data
were obtained without carrying out experiments on the subjects. Likewise,
the consent of the parents and a format of approval was obtained for their
children to participate as informants of this study because they were
minors.
Research results The age ranged from 16 to 18 years; 81.7% live with the mother and 61.8% talk
about family planning with the mother. They know about contraceptive methods
(94.8 %), have received information about their use (92.1 %), in school (39.3 %)
and in the family (14.4 %). indicated that the method considered to prevent
pregnancy and STI is the condom (86%), and that in the first sexual intercourse
pregnancy may occur (71.2%). Similarly, out of shame or shame they do not
request information on contraceptive methods (51.5 per cent), some have not had
their first sexual intercourse (50.7 per cent); they also stated that the first family
planning method used was the condom (67 %).
Conclusions The knowledge, practices and diverse socio-demographic characteristics
have an impact on many aspects of the sexual and reproductive health of
these students.
Study limitations The lack of communication with regard to the contextualization of sexual
relations and the use of contraception.
