Drain and Flush the Coolant System

Introduction
This procedure will guide you through draining and flushing the coolant system.

a. Turn off the ink temperature (this will disable the automatic coolant fill).
b. Remove the door of the Primary (left) ink bay by lifting it off the hinges.
c. Disconnect the fitting of the Coolant Bottle.

e. Swap the two fitting connections with each other so the open tube will now be
on the left side.

Note: The coolant system holds ~0.8L of coolant so the bottle needs to be
empty.

g. Open the Coolant Valve to begin draining the coolant.

h. Start the SDS test 2-6-14 “Coolant fill”.

Note: If the test stops before all coolant is removed from system restart test.

i. Stop the test when air begins to exit through the drain tube.
j. Close the Coolant Valve.
k. Swap the two fitting connections back to their original positions.
l. Open the Coolant valve.
m. Fill the coolant supply bottle.
n. Connect the fitting back on to the Coolant Supply Bottle.

Flushing the Coolant System

1. To flush the coolant system, follow the Coolant system Startup procedure but fill the
system with distilled water.
See: Coolant System Startup
2. Enable ink heat and allow the system to circulate for minimum 20 minutes (60 minutes
preferred).
3. Drain the distilled water from the coolant system using the drain the coolant system
procedure: Drain the Coolant System.

4. Refill the coolant system using only Océ Coolant. (Note: Non Océ coolants do not have
special additives to prevent things growing in the coolant resulting in plugged valves,
reduced flow, and premature component failure).
See: Coolant System Startup
a. Fill coolant bottle with coolant.
b. Insert the coolant bottle into the left ink bay next to the Ink Bags.
c. Attach the coolant supply tube to the coolant bottle
d. Open the coolant manual valve above the pump.
e. Put the coolant drain tube into an empty bottle in case of overflow.
f. Start SDS 2-6-014 "Coolant System Charge" until carriage reservoir bottle is
full. (this may take 10 minutes and multiple starts of the SDS test.)
g. Reconnect the coolant recirculation pump to the carriage peripheral board if
disconnected.
h. Start SDS test 2-4-003 "Coolant Recirculation Pump".
i. Press Stop after the coolant recirculation pump is running and the coolant
reservoir is full and no longer filling.
j. Inspect the coolant system for leaks and repair/retest if necessary.
k. Refill coolant fill bottle after the system has finished filling.
