1/ Describe an environmental problem in your town/city

There are many environmental issues facing Vietnam. In your opinion, what are the
causes and effects of the biggest environmental issue that Vietnam must confront?

Vietnam has been a developing country that has had a high speed of economic growth
because of industrialization. The development brings many benefits for Vietnamese
society, but it also causes some serious environmental problems.

Specifically, to perform the industrialization, there have been more businesses,

factories and industrial areas being created, and the activities of these businesses
contribute to significant pollution of air, land and water. In a sustained effort to
change the domestic economic structure and develop the economy, the Vietnamese
government has encouraged improvement of industry. This means the activities of
factories and industrial areas have increased at a high level.

As a result, there are more and more fossil fuels being burned and a large amount of
carbon dioxide, carbon monoxide and nitrogen put into the air, land and water. This
causes the serious pollution of the air, land and water in Vietnam's environment. For
example, there are many polluted rivers in Vietnam with black water and a terrible
smell, and the Saigon River is a significant example. Furthermore, there are many
places that do not have fresh water to drink and use for basic demands because of the
pollution of water sources that result from the industrial waste of many factories.

In my opinion, the best solution for this problem is improving the environmental
awareness of people by a suitable education program that can educate people about
the importance and essential role of the environment. In addition, the government
should have more heavy penalties for any action that does not follow the law and
harms nature. If there is effective cooperation between people and organizations, the
environment will get better in the near future.
2/ Present some solutions to crimes
There are many different opinions on the best way to reduce crime. Traditionally,
increasing the size of police department generally proves to be an effective way
to keep people from committing crime. An another solution is
to reduce criminal motives such as property and revenge, to prevent them from doing
illegal action. I completely agree with both opinions because of the following reasons.

People in favour of having more police on the street argue that increasing the number
of police officers impacts on crime rate effectively, particularly bringing it down.
Potential criminals should fear the huge amount of cops who are always ready to
enforce the law and deter people from committing crime. Additionally, people are less
worried about crime thanks to the presence of police on the street. Citizens are happy
and feel safe when they live in a city with high security.

On the other hand, people believe that a better way to reduce crime is trying to prevent
crime in the first place. Occurrences of offence depend on criminals’ motive and lack
of education opportunities. If citizens' property is protected carefully
and the gorvements have policies to improve the living condition for the poorer ones,
people have no reason to commit crime. Additionally, people who are given more
education opportunities will have chance to approach high living condition.
This is due to the fact that they certainly stay away from criminal acts.

In conclusion, I believe that the two above solutions are considerably necessary
for citizens around the world.
3/ Describe your favorite childhood story
The story my mother told me when I was seven years old has great influence on
me. It was about the experience of a little monkey who, for the first time by
himself, went down the mountain where he lives, leaving deep impression on me.

It's autumn, time for harvest. When he goes through a stretch of land with fully-
grown corns, little monkeyselects the biggest one and carries it back home. On
half way, he comes across a field planted with water-melons. Attracted by the
delicious water-melons, he has to throws away the corn to carry the water-melon
he picks. On the foothill, however, he catches a sight of a lovely bunny, which he
runs after immediately. Finally, the bunny runs into bush missing. Little monkey
goes back home with empty-hands, for he loses the water-melon on chasing.

Mum told me the story when I asked her for advice. At that time I was, like the
little monkey, choosing and quitting what I tried to do. Together with my friends,
I went to play volleyball, which I gave up after a month's time, for I thought I was
not tall enough to play volleyball. Later I took up dancing since I like dressing up
and dancing to the music, which, however I stuck to for three weeks. Then I
thought about learning drawing or handwriting. Finishing the story, Mum told me
whatever I decided to do, I should keep on or I would end up learning nothing.
From then on, I am more careful of choosing what to do and hold on to the end as
long as I make up my mind.
4/ Describe your favorite book
Actually, I’m not a bookworm but sometimes, I still seek comfort in reading
books, especially fiction books. There’s a book of this type that I read when I
was a child and I read it over and over again. It has many wonders in it and
always makes me absorbed in its interesting content. The book is called “Diary
of a cricket”, written by To Hoai.

It is a short novel, initially written for children. However, I believe this book is
suitable for all other ages thanks to the storytelling ability of To Hoai. The book
describes the adventure of a cricket through the world of animals and people, of
the good and bad, war and peace, ideals and life purpose in colorful yet
insightful perspectives.

The cricket experienced countless setbacks and challenges but overcame them

to eventually become a force of good. In general, the main character has his
own charismatic power. His adventure story is so magical and enchanting that
every page I turned tempted me to read further. The first time I read this book, I
found it extremely hard to put it down. It is such a great book that has been
translated into more than 100 languages.

In my opinion, it is a good source of bilingual books for Vietnamese children.

Parents who grew up with this story will love to enjoy it again with their
children. I believe that in the company of this book, a child, even a hyperactive
one, is never going to feel bored or restless.
